Absolute boss waiting to hand the ball to our players. Must have been really reassuring and calming for the player. Such a class act.
If he retires I'll eat my fucking cock.

Great anti climax for those expecting jizzihno....

How about the intelligence of Allison to pick up the ball after he saved from Mount? The ball was going to back spin into the goal - and you know Pawson would have counted it.

I'll be honest, I didn't think he was the best in the world until this season. I knew he was top 3-5 for sure. But the little brainfarts, some bad decision-making made me think he won't go in the Pantheon with Yashin, Banks, Cech, van der Sar or Schmeichel.
But this season...he's so dominant in 1v1 situations. I wouldn't want anyone else between the sticks.

Can you upgrade Alisson? I don't think so.

He got lucky. If it had been Tierney or Atkinson he would have been sent off for illegally trying to save a penalty twice.

By the laws of the game (penalty shootout laws to be precise), would it have counted had it gone in?

Where is the 'cut off' for the ball to be declared dead?

Yes it would have counted.

There was a lower league game a few seasons where the goalkeeper saved the spot kick and ran off celebrating but the ball landed and slowly spun back into the goal and it was awarded.

Must admit I was so glad when Alisson grabbed that ball as I had flashbacks of that.

The kicker can only strike the ball once, keeper can touch is as many times as required until its gone dead. It stops basically when the ball goes out of play, is in the keepers possession, the taker kicks it again or the ball goes dead

This was the one that I thought of when I saw the back spin and Ali grab the ball

I don't remember watching Tommy Lawrence play, I was only 5 when he last played for us, but grew up with Clem and Ali is right up there with him. Both were/are better than Brucie because they don't suffer from the same brainfarts that Brucie did, although Brucie was a wonderful keeper and pulled off saves that made you go "how the fuck did he save that". Ali has that same ability Clem had, to do nothing for 89 minutes and then pull off vital save, both keep the defence relaxed and both have great distribution.

I've said this before on here, biggest compliment I can give both men, is that they could both play in each others times, although Clem would need to adjust to the flyaway balls they use these days and Ali would need to get used to thin or no gloves and balls that weighed a ton.

I watched Tommy Lawrence play ... and I'd say your assessment is totally spot-on.  Clemence used to make "how the fukk did he get that?" saves regularly ... and we're seeing Ali do the same on breakaways again and again.

biggest compliment I can give both men, is that they could both play in each others times, although Clem would need to adjust to the flyaway balls they use these days and Ali would need to get used to thin or no gloves and balls that weighed a ton.

because the ref can decide when to the blow the whistle. but here - I agree - which was the point of my observation - that if Allison doesn't pick it up then it would have been a goal (i.e. no way was pawson blowing it to stop).

He can't. It says in the Laws of the Game: "The penalty kick is completed when the ball stops moving, goes out of play or the referee stops play for any offence." So, the ball was still in play and Pawson would have had to give the goal, if the ball had gone into the goal.
