Probably very unfair to point out given he'd literally just arrived on the pitch (and made up for it immediately with his part in Lallana's winner), but...

I reckon he was partly to blame for Norwich's 4th goal. He came on to protect against long balls and set plays, and, seconds later was involved in defending a long ball set play double whammy, was the closest to the eventual scorer as the ball came in / when it was struck (I think), and... they scored :(

It's difficult for a player to have been on the bench for virtually 90 minutes and then be fully prepped for a pretty frantic game and not exactly be cold.

Aye he could have done better for the 4th goal, but the team as a whole should have done more as well to have ensured that it didn't happen.

In some ways i do feel sorry for the lad, i personally think he should be starting for now, but there are plenty of games left until the end of the season so he'll have his shot.

Where the hell is this fella?
I was in Alder Hay with an abscess on my hip in about 1973 and Bill Shankly never came and played the bongos for me.

Way down the pecking order I assume. Mama, Lovren and Kolo all rightly ahead of him at the moment.

Very interesting but also a tough read, and also big props to Caulker for having the courage to speak about.
Full article here:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/29/steven-caulker-mental-illness-addictions-gambling-drinking-qpr

Steven Caulker has a tale to tell and, as hard as it is to hear, it is best simply to listen. His stream of consciousness veers from scoring on his England debut less than five years ago and the thrill at potential being realised to the horrific mental health issues that have almost ended it all in the period since. A player who, from the outside, appeared blessed with talent and opportunity speaks of desperate anxiety and self-loathing.

He contemplated killing himself in his darkest moments with his path one of self-destruction. Attempts at escapism cost him hundreds of thousands of pounds, wages frittered away in casinos. Then came the drinking aimed at numbing the pain. The 25-year-old finds himself recalling the times spent in custody watching CCTV footage of his misdemeanours, his lawyer at his side, and not recognising the vile person on the screen.

A bit pertinent to Liverpool, which would explain why he kinda dissapeared from the squad:

There were occasions when he would wake up in a police cell. He grimaces when asked how often he has been arrested, embarrassed to admit the figure, but the drunk and disorderly offences would flare up from London to Southampton to Merseyside. “Sometimes I’d be sat there with the police and my lawyer, watching the CCTV footage of what I’d done, and I didn’t recognise myself. I couldn’t believe the person I was. It’s so hard to accept I could be like that. In Liverpool I was waking up in the middle of the night throwing up, people were blackmailing me, club owners and bouncers: ‘Pay money or we’ll sell this story on you.’ And I had no idea what I’d even done on those blackouts. I eventually told the club I couldn’t function and needed to go back into rehab.”

Shows the human side of players. We all have our demons, some more than most, but we don't have to do our job in front of 40'000 plus people, TV cameras and constant social media babble.

Have to say I´m very happy that I had no idea about this until now. That nobody in the club leaked this to the journalists or, if local journos did know, they sat on it to give a guy who needed a break exactly that. Very brave to come out and talk about it now and wish him all the best in his recovery.

big balls to come out and talk about this, but great that its been kept so hidden. I can't say I am around the night club scene these days, but in this city of gossip I am glad that this hasn't been all over the press.

Easy to forget that these lads are footballers too, who have lived on a rollercoster for many years. Hope he continues on a solid good path

Indeed.  An interesting story about it in the Echo https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/former-liverpool-defender-steven-caulker-14265242

Quote
“It came about just a few days ago,” Caulker said. “I happened to be up here a few days ago for a funeral, so it was really bizarre how it happened.

"I met him (Neil McCann, the Dundee manager) the night before and sat down to chat with him for about an hour. I just felt that he could offer me what I need and what I want. What I want is to be back enjoying my football in a good environment with a manager who is understanding, and one who is caring and respectful.

"I feel that I've found that in Neil. I came up last night and signed today. I'm excited and looking forward to getting started."

At 26, he should be entering his physical prime.  It'll be great for both Dundee and Caulker if he can capture some form.
“It's impossible,” said Pride.  “It's risky,” said Experience.  “It's pointless,” said Reason.

“Give it a try,” whispered the Heart. - Ken-Obi

Steven Caulker is playing for Alanyaspor this season, and the team was involved in a bus crash this weekend, which sadly claimed the life of their Czech striker Josef Sural.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48090099

Caulker is said to be ok physically, but obviously distraught.

Steven Caulker set for Sierra Leone debut

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58760472

reading a bit about Caulker and Sierra Leone, and it’s such a positive story of the help he’s given his grandfathers' home village in helping build a school, and the many visits he’s made there over the years.

Seems his career is back on track which is great to see, after what he went through.

Good interview with him in the Guardian. Seems a lovely lad. On his time at Liverpool:

Jürgen Klopp: his press was genuinely different, unbelievable. I was always on the other XI in training and I could see, day by day, how good they were getting. I receive the ball, and bang, bang, bang. I left there thinking: ‘They’re going to win the Premier League.’

I wasn’t ready for the opportunity at Liverpool so I was moved aside, rightly. Hendo [Jordan Henderson], [Adam] Lallana and [James] Milner were driving standards forwards. But I wasn’t in a good place mentally. At the time, you can feel hard done by but looking back, having done therapy, I see it. I respect it.”
