General Bayern Munich Thread
« on: September 2, 2015, 06:09:02 am »
Well, Bayern are playing really well. Thought there should be a place to discuss them. Pep is pushing the limits with what he can do, the other day he beat Bayern Leverkusen, playing without a centre back, with a back three of Xabi, Lahm and Alaba. As all his centre backs were injured.
Douglas Costa, is probably for me the most lethal wide forward based on the opening gameweeks in all of Europe. He seems to be the real deal, and is probably the next best thing after the stalwarts at Barca and Real.
I think this season Bayern will be going all guns blazing, and should have a good campaign in Champions League.
Lastly, Xabi Alonso plays there, now isn't that not enough of a reason to follow them. He still has it Xabi, controlling games, pin point passes, playing centre back, providing assists regularly. A rolls royce of a player.
Their forward line is absolutely frightening - Douglas Costa, Lewandowski, Muller, Robben. Vidal and Alonso in centre mid. And, the Curious case of Phillip Lahm, who refuses to age whilst playing any position asked of him.
Also, a word for Pep, his enthusiasm and energy during a game is infectious. Even in the last minute he is gesturing frantically for his players to press and close down. Although, it is easy to do that when your team is winning 5-0 and 3-0.
Hats off to Bill on his throne,

I'm loving how Bayern's new signing are jelling together, Vidal and Costa seemed to have found their roles in the squad quite comfortably. I think most Bayern fans should be a confident of a CL push but all that relys on us staying healthy. Sadly Ribery won't be available till at least beginning of the new year but fortunately Costa is proving to be just as lethal and Robben is slowly picking up his form. The Coman transfer could be a big wild card for this season. I personally don't have much idea of his potential or abilities from personally watching him but he looks to be a good prospect who could come at a bargain if he fulfills his potential.

How many attacking players do Bayern need. I think Ribbery might find it tough to get back in the side, given how well Costa is playing.

I think the current amount will do, I almost forgot to mention Gotze on the bench but his position isn't as winger like Robbery and Costa and he isn't really a physical but technical striker like Muller and Lewa!but more of an AM. Sadly for him Bayern don't play with AMs so he has been forced to play wide. I think barring any serious injuries the options Bayern has in its attack will work but it's the defense that doesn't seem to be able to stay healthy though.

Well I wish you good luck, and hope Xabi picks up his third Champions League medal with three different sides.

I fully expect it to be Bayern + Real/Barca in the final. Unreal side now they've added Costa to make up for the lack of Ribery towards the latter stages of the competition last year.

Philip Lahm. Can't believe he's still only 31, feels like he's been around forever. Must be one of my favourite players ever, oozes class wherever he is on the pitch.

Have been watching every game from them, since I'm incredibly impressed with Douglas Costa. Player to watch this season. Doesn't Shakhtar have a couple of more Brazilians in that vein?

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't German fans unhappy with him? For taking Schweini's place, for taking the place of some youngsters? People seem to think he is old and error-prone these days?

I think Bayern fans always react like that with outsiders coming in. They didn't like Neuer initially.
Xabi has been so good recently that he is appreciated by both pep and the crowd.
Plus Schweini has been poor for a year and half now.

I've not watched this season but apparently he's been excellent.

Did have a few 'moments' though last season for sure, a couple of wobbly weeks where he was way below his best.

Xabi was pretty error prone last season which got many Bayern fans infuriated with Pep and Xabi but sadly injuries weren't kind to us last season so Xabi continued to start regardless but this season has been an improvement but most Bayern fans are hoping for a youngster to displace him

Cheers for that.

I think Pep would love someone like Verratti. I watched PSG play (albeit a weakened) Monaco last weekend, and it's really quite something how he can orchestrate a game and move the team up the pitch. Very underrated, probably because people don't watch PSG much outside of CL knockouts. He's so good at forming those triangles with his mobility.

They are looking very good, but the problem I have with Bayern is that we're not going to know how good they actually are until they get to the last eight or the last four of the CL. I mean last year xabi looked great at the base of the midfield, setting all sorts of records for passes in a game, and scoring half his free kicks. It was only when they got to the last eight and had to play porto that they discovered that Xabi can barely move any more, and you can just take the ball off him. Then they let in five goals in the semi final, just like the season before. we're only going to find out if they have problems when it's far too late.

Hats off to the German clubs for supporting the refugee crisis - after Dortmund invited 220 refugees for their Europa League tie against Norwegian club Odds , Bayern are now doing this ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34142261

Bayern Munich to set up refugees 'training camp'

Bayern Munich are to set up a 'training camp' for refugees coming into Germany and will donate 1m euros (£730,000) for refugee projects.
Parts of Europe have seen an influx of migrants arriving, with many in Hungary wishing to travel to Germany.
The Bundesliga champions plan to provide food, German lessons and football equipment for children.
"Bayern sees it as its social responsibility to help the refugees," said club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
The number of migrants entering Europe has reached record levels this year, largely driven by the conflict in Syria. Germany expects to take in 800,000 asylum seekers this year - four times last year's total.

Borussia Dortmund fans held a banner with "Refugees Welcome" during a match against Hannover 96 last October

Bayern, who have won the German league title 25 times and are five-time European champions, will also highlight the current refugee crisis in their next home match against Augsburg.
The game on 12 September will see the starting line-up enter the Allianz Arena "holding the hand of a German child and a refugee's child".

Bayern's rivals and current league leaders Borussia Dortmund invited 220 refugees to watch the side play Norwegian side Odd in the Europa League last Thursday. Rivals Mainz gave out 200 free tickets to their home match against Hannover last weekend.
Banners carrying positive messages in support of refugees were evident at last weekend's Bundesliga matches.
The view from Germany

Football expert Raphael Honigstein talking to BBC World Service: "The Germany refugee crisis situation plays out in city centres across the country. You either hear of them being helped by nice people or faced with demonstrators and right-wing terrorists trying to burn down places they are staying in or beating them up.
"You have to take your hat off to fans' groups who have seen this and decided they need to show whose side they are on. You have clubs all over Germany who organise games with refugees, even before this latest wave of refugees. It's a real grassroots movement."
Journalist Ronald Reng talking to BBC World Service: "It shows you that the ultra fans want to be seen as political groups. There is certainly a change. They don't want to be just football fans, but be something more.
"When football fans have been seen as political groups they have usually been associated with being right wing, particularly in Italy. In Germany they want to distance themselves from the first movement - the hooligan movement."
RIP Alex Jarmay .                                           Justice  for the 97 YNWA

Mr Alex Ferguson on Anfield after St Etienne 77 : "I didn't walk away from the ground after the game, I floated out. I had been caught up in the most exciting football atmosphere I have ever experienced...these Liverpool fans support with PASSION"

German football is lightyears ahead of us in terms of fan experience. They modernized without losing their soul, or pricing the working class out of attending matches.

Only real downside to the league is Bayern's total dominance.

So, so far ahead of us in terms of the way fans are treated by the clubs though. It's not JUST a business to them. There's actual soul in the Bundesliga. Meanwhile we wait to see if the Russian Oligarch or the Abu Dhabi prince succeeds in buying the Premier League this year, in stadiums with zero atmosphere, history or tradition.

Meh.

Bayern juggernaut rolls on. Miraculous from Lewandowski. But, Costa with another assist. How fast is he.
Pep, really needs to do nothing, but let his front quartet attack, and enjoy the show. It is a travesty, that Bayern are so powerful in Germany, but then again, apart from Spain, they would win the league in almost all other leagues easily.

We should throw in a cheeky bid for Ribery in January, they don't need him anymore.

Pep Guardiola: Bayern Munich coach walks out of press briefing

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola walked out of a news conference on Friday after being asked about reports linking him with the England job.

Guardiola is out of contract with the Bundesliga champions next June, but has refused to discuss his future publicly.

Reports on Friday suggested the Football Association wants the former Barcelona boss to succeed Roy Hodgson.

Pressed to comment, Guardiola said: "Oh come on, I'm coach of Bayern Munich. Many thanks and auf wiedersehen."

He then left the briefing, organised to preview Bayern's trip to Mainz on Saturday.

Hodgson's contract with England expires after Euro 2016, and his future will not be discussed until the tournament is over, FA chief executive Martin Glenn has indicated.

Guardiola made clear at his news conference he did not want to discuss the issue, having earlier answered a more general question about his future plans with a polite "next question please".

The 44-year-old has led Bayern to two Bundesliga titles in his two years at the club, yet he questioned at the start of this season whether he was the right man for the job.

He said he would step down if he ever got the feeling somebody else would be a better choice for the club, leading to speculation that he will leave next summer.

Bayern have said that negotiations over a new contract would be held as and when Guardiola is ready.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34358364

Hahaha. Guardiola doesn't want to walk in the Hodge's footsteps, or sit in his warm seat. Hardly surprising. The FA must be smoking something strong.

Yeah, it seemed like Bayern massively overpaid for Coman at the time, but he seems to be a good deal so far for them.

I'm hoping Coman becomes an Alaba 2.0

Isn't he a winger? Why not Ribery or Robben 2.0?

Is it Alaba 2.0 because he is black?

I'd seen a bit of Coman at Juventus, and was surprised they were willing to let him go.  In fact getting rid of Vidal, Pirlo, Tevez I thought they would allow youngsters like Coman a bit more space.  Juve are struggling at the moment.
