I'd be extremely pissed off if I was a Swansea fan. Resting players for a tournament a month away is mental.

Yeah the likes of Ashley Williams, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Lukasz Fabianski said to be sitting out City. Although looking now the first two were also rested when they battered West Ham. Guess its a reward by getting safety early & not risking any injurys.

Quote
Van Gaal: “We are dependable of Manchester City that’s the difference, that’s also frustrating when you had the chance to two matches before the end to keep that advantage.

“We were 2-1 ahead with 15 minutes to play and then we gave it away, that’s frustrating, now we are dependable but still it is possible. We fight until the end.

“I have given also players rest and I have won. That is also possible for Swansea. It’s the responsibility of the club and manager to do what he thinks is right for the team. I can’t judge that.

“My task is the same because we have to play against Bournemouth and I don’t play against Manchester City.”

Is it though? They'll barely move in the league regardless of their last result and the players will get a decent rest ahead of not only the Euro's but next season. With a lack of a winter break it's not a bad idea to give those players some extra time off, especially when they probably wouldn't be playing at 100% for fear of getting injured ahead of the competition anyway.

Well you could argue they need rest but they've been resting for about 2 months anyway. The game against us is about the only decent performance they've turned in for ages and they've barely had a cup run so I'm not buying they're that fatigued. Final game of the season, at home and he's going to send the ressies out, it's needless in my opinion. The players will have a couple of weeks off and playing 1 extra game now is unlikely to impact any games in the middle of june.

Yernited are 6-1 to get top 4. Think that's generous myself. The chips normally fall in their favour and Swansea are in great form.
94 Corner to us. Last kick. Ali in the box and he’s scored

Playing every week is still going to take it's toll over time, that's partly why some teams drop off badly in the last month or two of the season. If we had nothing to play for and chose to give some youth players a game I wouldn't be too fussed.

Fair enough, doubt it'd have made much difference to the outcome anyway. City, though wildly inconsistent should have too much for them and the motivation should be there on sunday.

Will be too funny if City miss out on the Champions League, although it means the Red Mancs benefit from that, but might just keep Aloysius Paulus Maria "Louis" van Gaal in a job.

Quite happy that the great Premier League has had to scrape the barrel for three games for Sky which are destined to be low quality, boring affairs to end the season.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

What about us qualifying or not qualifying for the Europa league next season?  What are the various scenario's,  if we don't win the final? Does anyone care? I think we should.

Has anyone else seen the potential for Liverpool and West Ham to play a play off for Europa League football next season?

Ok, so there's numerous things that would have to happen to make it so.

The current table looks so:

                                           GF  GA  GD  Pts.
West Ham        37  16  14  7  64  49  15  62

Southampton   37  17   9   11  55  40   15  60

Liverpool          37  16  11  10  62  49  13  59

First things first, it would mean us not winning in Basel (which ain't happening  ;)   )  but.....

If Liverpool were to win 2-1, and west ham were to lose 1-0, and Southampton fail to win, then Liverpool and West Ham would both be on 62 points, both on 64 goals for, and 50 goals against, ie: the exact same goal difference of 14.

Liverpool & West Ham could face Europa League play-off

If we finish 6th we will qualify. If we finish 7th we'll need United to win the Cup to qualify. 8th and we'll miss out.

Obviously if we win on Wednesday all that is academic and it's Champions League all the way baby.
