Mods, I searched but didn't find a thread on Nat Phillips. It may be a very short one (or non-existent if you delete), but I thought his debut warrants the respect he deserves.

The boys is doing quite well, stepping up in a very difficult moment for the club. The situation doesn't look that dire now...

He'll very much "do a job" against the lesser teams, worry about his mobility against any side that can pass and move with pace.

Fucking colossal!
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Has Jürgen found his Neven Subotic in Nat?

Man of the match today for me. Colossal performance.
Mark my words. Top 8 will be a massive struggle.
We won't make any big signings this season and we will go back to being a top4 club.

What a brilliant debut, lots of pressure on him and he dealt with the aerial threat brilliantly and was calm and collected on the ball.

Good decision by Klopp. They thought they could test us aerially but Philips was equal to it. A good option to have against these teams. Nice to see a player know his strengths and weaknesses and play to them.

Well done lad. Can tell he's not great on the ball but doesnt matter against teams who dont press from the front.

I don't know the stats, but it seemed that Nat had won more of air duels than Joe. I didn't expect him to be that dominant in the air and I was worried when Haller was put on him, but he held his own.

Fucking Hell! Aerially and Physically, he is as good as anyone else in the league. Didn't realize he was 6'3" until today because he appeared not so imposing when he played previously, but what the friggin heck?? Maybe not so great on the ball, but he compliments Gomez perfectly to cover for his not-so-good aerial prowess. I'd play him over Rhys against the Burnleys of the league.

I'd actually play him over Gomez against physical/set piece teams because he's a fucking wall.

Awesome performance from Nat today. He was very competitive in the air and that discouraged West Ham from pumping long balls.

It's sometimes difficult to replace someone like VVD, but, one thing I liked about his performance is that he didn't try to be Virgil, he focused on doing the basic things well and was fantastic as a result.

I'm very impressed. Immense in the air which to be honest we were lacking with no VVD or Matip.

Very solid. Strong in the air and some good challenges too. Not very adventurous but just what we needed today.

Nice to see Jurgen  and Pep were delighted with him at the end of the game.

Well played Nat.

The likes of Phillips and Williams are going to be more ready than some random 5-10 million buy from France or Spain who'll need time to settle.

People go on about how we should have signed a centre half (ideally we should have) but for a ready made buy you're talking big money we didn't have. Klopp can develop the options he's got.
