Boss. Is it a bit strange there hasn't been any updates on Matip? I remember seeing a pic of him jogging on the pitch about 1.5 months ago and don't think there's been an update since.

Yeah just thought there'd be pics of him doing rehab or something. Every couple weeks we see some footage or pics of Gomez and Van Dijk. I guess Matip doesn't have social media so never posts anything himself. Just miss seeing the goofy bastard i guess hah.

Brendan. Signed him in 2015 when he was only 18 and went straight into the first team, no mucking around in the U23s.

If I recall correctly, he made his debut at LB when we beat Stoke on the opening day of the season, courtesy of a typical Coutinho screamer.

Imagine where he'd be at in terms of development if it hadn't been for the one/ two (how many was it?) serious injuries he had when he first arrived here. He wouldn't be the best CB even without the injuries, because Van Dijk is that good, he doesn't dominate in the air in both boxes or anywhere close to it like Van Dijk.

Who cares if he isn't the best. He's important to how we play because of his pace and his passing. Aerial ability isn't as important when you defend high.

to be honest he has the size to be able to do so, and with 2 years of further development (which he missed) and possibly more spring from the lack of knee injuries, then he may well be a bit of dominant than he currently is.

Did you read the post I quoted? I didn't say I care if he is or isn't the best, nor did I diminish all of his other abilities. The guy I quoted said he would be the best CB in the world if it weren't for injuries. I said he wouldn't, because Van Dijk is that good, not that he isn't important to how we play.

Just hope he can steer clear of any more serious injuries, he's among the best CBs in Europe when fit and the best that England has in that position by a fair distance IMO.

Can't wait to see him back on the pitch, whenever that is. There's still so much to come from him given his age.

It's important he does. Gomez is a fantastic centre back. When he plays alongside big Virg Liverpool can play the game almost entirely in the opponent's half. His recovery pace is second to none. Plus his pace with the ball and his courage to move with it between the lines. He's a hard player too. A fifty-fifty challenge with Gomez would not be fun.
