Yet still out of the three trophies the ‘easiest’ to win. I think we will rest 5 or 6 first team starters but not comply change it.

Luckily we have a strong squad. But like against Chelsea there are players like Van Dijk, Robertson, Salah, Firmino that need protecting and none of them should be near games like this.

Will be a tough one (although Wolves have been rubbish lately). Despite them being a PL side, have to think they'll be resting some key players as their focus will surely be on PL survival this season.
You cannot call overseas Liverpool supporters glory hunters. We’ve won one trophy this decade. If they’re glory hunters, they’re really bad ones. They’re actually journey hunters. It’s the journey and the story. Something about Liverpool has grabbed them." - Neil Atkinson (May, 2019)

Anyone would think we got City

Wolves are nothing. Didn't they get slapped by Watford and Huddersfield at home. I wanted a Woking/Southport away so that they can get big money and we can beat them

Crap draw and will be straight after Arsenal and Man City away. I always want us to have a go at the FA Cup but we'll absolutely have to play full strength sides for the preceding 2 games, and I'd rather we rested players than risked burnout after 2 doubtless gruelling matches the previous week. Hopefully our 'freshest 11' will prove to be enough on the day and hopefully Wolves will decide to rest a few too...

We got West Brom last year, rested some players and that was that. Personally, I think playing a team near the bottom of the Premier League is probably better.

Sure on paper City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs & Arsenal have got more favourable draws, but I tell you what I would rather avoid the away ties. Does nobody remember the Exeter/Plymouth games? The whole country is wanting you to get beat, on a shit pitch in front of the cameras. Sure it's a much easier game, but getting beat in these games will be remembered for years and years to come.

We hardly rested anyone of note at that time. Salah, Mane, Firmino and Van Dijk all played.

Wolves squad depth is non-existent.  I don't remember the exact stat but didn't Nuno break some record for picking the same starting 11 week after week this season?  They look burnt out after 14 games of once-a-week football!

I would have preferred a home tie but give me Wolves over some lower league fairytale chasers any day.

Not a bad draw, at least we won't have to play some yard dogs. Obviously being at Anfield would've been nice but we haven't taken advantage in previous year

If we're still in the title race and have progressed to the CL knock-outs then a weakened side would be understandable. If we're not then we should be going balls out for this, still our most likely route to a trophy.

Not arsed.
I hate early rounds in the FA cup at anfield with the whole of the anny road filled with gobshite fans and their anti scouse hilarity. We tend to play a weakened team and fuck it up too.
Hope we get a massive allocation and rekindle the spirit of '76. I'm sure there's a song in there somewhere  ;)

Because of playing City on Thursday 3rd, I reckon we will be the Monday night FA cup game.

Agree with the poster a few posts above. Wolves look shot at already and are going seriously backwards and could well be in the relegation places come January.

Out of the few that was left at the end of the draw. A home draw would obviously have been nice but Wolves away was better than a hike to South Wales or away at those gobshites Villa.  Both would be very tricky ties too.

I doubt I’ll be going but I don’t really get what the moaning is about? Decent away trip Wolves, big allocation hopefully. Granted we could have got an easier tie but I hate going to those matches. Remember Havant and Waterlooville that time? Every man and his dog wanting us to lose, 5,000 people who’ll never go to another away in their lives in the road end in fancy dress? Fuck that.

Just play a strong team and we’ll beat them.

Answered your own question there.

Not really? It’s the FA Cup, not the Community Shield. We haven’t won anything since 2012. As I’ve said before, every time we’ve tried it in the past we’ve ended up getting knocked out. Wolves home, Barnsley home, Burnley away, then ties we eventually won but were far harder than they needed to be like Exeter City and Plymouth. I could go on. People seem to think because we have a stronger squad it’s magically going to change but that’s far from guaranteed. The opposition will be bang up for it at this stage, so just get the tie won.

If anything drawing the likes of Wolves who will have one eye on staying in the Premiership is likely to be an advantage compared with drawing a mid table championship team who won’t be going up or down and will plough everything into it.

It astounds me that every year people have the same attitude when literally every time it goes the same way.

We don't have the squad to win the treble mate, we're going to have to rotate at some point. A cup tie against a lower league side would have been the perfect opportunity to do that.

2015/16 - Drew 0-0 at home with West Ham in the 4th round, knocked out in the replay at their place

2016/17 - Taken to a replay by Plymouth Argyle, scraped past them 0-1 only to get knocked out by Wolves away in the 4th round.

2017/2018 - West Brom, winless in 21, ended our 19 game unbeaten run at Anfield in the 4th round. We had basically a full strength line-up.

Do we just have a bit of an attitude problem with this competition under Klopp? Eyes on other prizes? Or is it just a coincidence?

The narrative is already set now by fans and pundits. Best chance of a trophy, Klopp needs one, pick your best players. It will be rattled out all the time even up to when the team is published.

Fans are going to have to realise that this isnt that important.

Who the fuck are you to be telling people what competition is or isn't important? You've absolutely no right to dictate that to people, or indeed celebrate in any way if we did go on to win it.

To be fair, we played a very strong 11 against West Brom last year. Its just that we were shite on the day and turned in the worst performance of the season.

Yeah I mentioned that, which made me question if this is more of a mentality/attitude problem towards the early rounds of this competition. Maybe the players know, consciously or not, that it's below the League and CL in importance and this reflects on the pitch

We've not had the best circumstances really. 2015/16 mediocre squad, fixtures every 3 days, were also in the Europa League, had qualified for the league cup final a few days before the first game v West Ham so was way down the list of priorities hence the shit teams we picked. 2016/2017, again a mediocre squad, had played a league cup semi 3 days before which was a morale denting loss, were in a bit of crap form anyway, losing to Swansea at home etc. Them two years are understandable, we couldn't pick a first 11 and it showed. Last year was the one that was shit, no excuses.

Time to rectify it now, we've got the squad.

One thing for me is that our second string is stronger than in past seasons.  The players who come in for anyone who is rotated are likely going to be the very first team regulars who were rotated out in past cup ties.  I'm thinking of the likes of Migs, Moreno, Lovren, Sturridge and some others.

Those of you confused what kind of team we will play, here's the truth:

If we're still in the title race (that means 6 points or less behind Man City) then we will give some key players a rest for this one. If Man City got more than six points lead on us, we will throw everything against Wolves, that's for sure.

They are precisely the type of team we've played weakened sides against in the Cup under Klopp and lost. And yes, we've been getting shit draws for a while now. This is another time where a 2nd or 3rd division side would've given us the rest we deserved.

I had a look at the last time we started in the league like this, that was in 90/91, we had a couple of FA Cup replays with a certain team and the King decided to quit in the middle of all that pressure... and then we went on an iffy run and lost the league to Arsenal. The rest is history.

We're moved to Monday night.

So our new year schedule is:
Thur 3 Jan  City (a)  8.00pm
Mon 7 Jan   Wolves (a)  7.45pm
Sat 12 Jan  Brighton (a)  3.00pm

3 aways in a row isn't nice, but at least there's 4/5 days between them.
