MK Dons v LiverpoolSo Wednesday marks our first game against the youngest of the football league clubs. Despite taking over and continuing Wimbledons Football League status in 2004, they no longer acknowledge their previous history, and MK Dons have since 2006, officially been their own club. As a result, we will thankfully not be subjected to constant re-runs of the 1988 FA Cup Final, as we were when playing the supporter-founded club AFC Wimbledon in 2015.Despite their short history, they have at least enjoyed some success. Former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince lead the club to a League Two title and Football League trophy double in 2007/08, before leaving for a short-lived managerial role in the Premier League with Blackburn, and returning again for one season. The club also had one season in the Championship. After winning promotion last season, the Dons sit mid-table with four wins from their first nine games, comfortably above the relegation zone and not too far off the play-off positions. Although it is of course, very early days. They also know a thing or two about playing top flight clubs in cup competitions, having among other results, beaten Manchester United 4-0 a few years back. These days of course, the League Cup means completely different things to the two teams. For MK, it's an opportunity for the players and their manager to test themselves against the club which is European Champions, and for the club as a whole it's an opportunity to sell the club to it's local community, and to experience a huge night, in front of a rare capacity crowd. To Liverpool, it's more of a distraction to the real targets of the season, but also gives those younger players and the fringe squad players a chance to show that they are worthy of being in the matchday squad on a regular basis.Only time will tell as to what side Klopp will put out. The only (fairly) certainty I would say, is that Caoimhin (thankfully I don't have to try and pronounce it) Kelleher will get the nod in goal. After that, I'd expect to see Lovren, Gomez, Lallana, Shaqiri, Keita if fit, and possibly Ox, providing the experience in the side along with the likes of Elliot, Brewster and Hoever.
Cripes. Kelleher certainly isn't scared to come out and defend
Would like to see us press forward more rather than recycling
48. They seem to be closing us down a lot quicker in this half.Dangerous ball in by us just goes over everybody's head, Gomez with a shot but it's well over
