How long's it been since we had so many main characters in the same place? Not since Episode 2 of Season 1, I would have thought, when in addition to the Starks and Lannisters we have now, we also had Ned, Cat, Robb, Robert, Cersei, Joffrey, plus some Tier 2-3 characters like Jory Cassel, Maester Luwin and Osha. I'm not counting the less important children that never did very much.

Meanwhile, not here in that episode but here now, we have Brienne, Davos, Varys, Missandei, Grey Worm, Dany, Jorah Mormont, Gendry and Sam.

Huge cast, and due to get bigger next episode.

It's probably quite hard to manage all of them in the same place at once. Luckily they're probably going to be mostly committed to fighting in about 1 episode, and many of them dead.

Its only natural I guess, everybody likes different aspects/characters of it

I liked the first episode. Wasn't expecting many fireqorks....its like they got the admin out the way and put all the pieces where they wanted to.

Never really got into this. My two flat mates watch it so thought I'd give it a go.

Have binged the last 7 series in the last month whilst avoiding this thread like the plague. Feel delighted/relieved to have finally caught up with everyone else.

My thoughts are it was a really good scene setting episode. Sets it up nicely for the rest of the season. Can't wait.

I remember a scene from yonks back when Jamie asks Bronn what he would say if someone asked him to kill a child, and Bronn said he'd ask 'how much?'.
Also, I think I remember Tyrion saying to Bronn once, if anyone ever asks him to kill him, he would pay him twice whatever they were paying him.

Just saw episode 1 this morning after avoiding the internet for 2 days!

I really enjoyed it - I'm one of the book readers and I used to be a lot more invested in all the history, potential plot lines etc, would go on the GOT forums to see what people were saying about it. But I think for this last series I'm going to do the same every Monday - just avoid the internet until I see it and just enjoy it in my own time. I don't want to read predictions etc as I think it's better to just go into each episode now and see what happens. Plenty of time to dissect when the series ends.

It's mad to think some of the actors haven't had scenes together in so long - Jamie and Brann for example musn't have acted together since series 1. I loved the look Jamie gave him - if Brann was to reveal to Sansa or Jon what happened then it would be the end of any sort of Stark/Lannister temporary alliance you have to feel.

This is what will be interesting about this final series - it should be about the wider danger of the Walkers coming to destroy all. But there's now too many past and present tensions to ensure the characters wont just be losing interest in power and politics.

Jon will battle between knowing keeping his true identity a secret means they have harmony while they try and defeat the Walkers using Dany's armies and dragons and knowing that he is the true King of Westeros.

Cersei is obviously only still interested in power. It's evident she plans on the Walkers destroying all her enemies before somehow trying to defeat them herself.

And Arya certainly has unfinished business. I would love her to have a scene we've all been waiting for with Cersei at some point.

I'm no Westerosi general, nor a huge fanboy finding issues with the show, and I guess there must be a legitimate reason for it as well in the show universe, but shouldn't they gather force at Moat Cailin and try to hold the Others back in the Neck? I get that the book refers to the infamous choke point as a defence against the southern armies, but surely, the northerners have a better chance of defending against the white walkers there?

Wouldn't be surprised if something like this happened, Jon to sacrifice himself for the greater good. Whatever happens I cant see Jon ending up on a throne anyway.

Bran knows, for sure. I think Bran calls the tune doesn’t he? They all just believe him when he says he sees Baelish saying things to Ned or that John isn’t a bastard. For all they know he could be lying.

The Night King has the same powers it seems eh?

Oh and the opening credits always kind of tell you what’ll happen in a way.

The northerners in general are incredibly stubborn and ignorant. They're the least likeable characters in the whole thing. Jon Snow literally died trying to protect them, was brought back to life and then assembled a huge army to give them a fighting chance...and they're still not behind him.

I guess a valid explanation for their narrow mindedness would be that they haven't actually seen the dead. Everyone who has knows how serious the threat is, even Cersei in her own way.
