Ive mentioned 'On the Wire' ( BBC Radio Lancashire ) a few times over the years , but to be honest Ive not listened for 18 months or more which I put right today , its amazing, Steve Barker ( who presents the show ) is still playing cutting edge left field new music after 35 years of his show (and in the time rivaled Peel as the best radio DJ inthe UK for new music)

Id strongly recommend those of you who like your music of a 'stranger cut' ( found that on an old tabacco tin once ;D) and are  into Dub/Reggae/Electro/obscure and world , really try and give his show a go for new music. its availlable on BBC Radio  Iplayer search for one the wire bbc radio lancashier , he broadcasts live on a Saturday 12- 2am , but as most of us are tucked up in bed iplayer works a treat.

Im listening to  his 6 Jan 2018 programme and its a treat and good example of his show...dub..then a bit of south african electro ....good source of music for 2018

Track list from his 6 Jan show:

Bit of a long shot ere.  I'm involved with a band who are just starting up and are hopefully moving onto big things,  they've got a national tour planned for Feb and are after some digs whilst they gig.  They're lovely lads, no trouble at all and are great musicians, all work part time in bars to get by amd work hard at what they do.  Taken me a while to get into their tunes but some of the new ones are amazing, Nirvana meets the Smiths.  One of their more recent ones here but the new stuff is better.  Only need a room with enough space for 4 of them to kip, so if anyone has space for them in these cities for a night after their gig or close enough would be sound.  May well be one of the next big things.  They're called False Heads

1st Feb  Glasgow - SORTED
2nd Feb Middlesbrough
3rd Feb Gig in Blackpool can stay there or Liverpool - SORTED
4th Feb Cardiff
8th Feb Cambridge - SORTED
9th Feb Bury St Edmunds
14th Feb Nottingham
25th Feb Manchester

more info here: http://www.falseheads.com/

Managed to sort some out updated list x  Their new record is going to be amazing

Saw one of their videos that tickled me, they were working on a farm for some reason and the farmer wanted them to fuck off but they wouldn't. The song didn't do much for me but I should probably check some more of theirs out. Metacritic seems to love them, as do you good self and others so I think I'll give them another chance at some point. Quite like Parquet Courts so if you think that's a touchstone then that's not a bad recommendation at all.

The only thing from this year I've listened to so far has been Anderson East's album Encore. Sort of rootsy southern soul, nothing particularly deep, just nice and easy fun listening. Saw him supporting Isbell a couple of years ago, he was great - had his arm in a cast 'cos he'd broken it a  couple of nights before and was dosed up on painkillers apparently but fair play to the guy, he gave good gig.

New BRMC is really good.

Also listened to the new No Age and they seem to have returned to the form of their first two records.

Best news of the year thus far. Big Josh T Pearson is back! New album in April. UK tour in May.

New Hot Snakes - first new tune on 13 years. As usual after first listen saying it's not their best, by second listen playing it on repeat.

They're playing some shows in Manchester/Leeds/Newcastle - love to live near by to go.  Best gig I was ever at was them in 2005.

*Big Lebowski Meme* That's fucking interesting.  Hopefully they'll lash a taster out soon.

I've never seen them but RFTC are certainly one of the best live acts I've ever seen.

They'd 100% be your kind of show, I reckon. Awesome live but for different reasons to RFTC. Where RTFC is all Speedo being 'Give it up for the band!', Hot Snakes is all killer no chat.  Even Speedo just hiding grooving beside amp giving it socks. The '05 gig was 2 nights after Instanbul - had been out from Wednesday, all day Thursday. Bed all day Friday - straight to Hot Snakes. I was in the mood for nothing. They came out said hello - and then just kicked our arse for 90 minutes.  Even did Luau by Drive Like Jehu as the encore.  Hands down the best gig I was ever at (I'd love to see people's response to best gig as a topic at some point). Can remember every moment even now.

Skipped the Blur reunion to see their live reunion at Prima Vera Porto 2013.  Up there too.  Unbelievable live band - Bit like the Thee Oh Sees, who I never give enough respect too, probably because they release far too much music.  But likewise it's essentially just traditional 2G, bass and drums  rock music (or an extra drummer and some keys for Oh Sees), but from somewhere else.  The first 2 Hot Snakes albums are perfect hard rock.

[EDIT] Been trying to find footage from around then that does justice, they've had so many reunions! Speedo doing lead guitars <3 <3 -> only good sound I could find:

[Edit 2] The subsequent clickhole has led me to this Drive Like Jehu show from 1992! Find.

Sadly not on youtube, but the title track and opener to Gum Takes Tooth's Mirrors Fold LP is very good. Not sure the rest of the album could keep up with it as such but that's a damn fine opener.

Got me hands on my first record purchase of the year ...'Ruins' by First Aid Kit...early days to make full judgment but comes over as a toothsome Swedish American Country Folk mash up in a pop stylee.....'Its a shame' and 'Fireworks' are gems!

Also treated me self to a Joe Gibbs Classic 'African Dub'

Nice one. Had a quick listen to a few songs and like the sound of it. Looking forward to this one.

Had it on three times today (twice with headphones) - it is really growing on me. At first it feels it feels a bit too cluttered with a few standout songs then it starts clicking as a whole piece of work.

Some great jams on there too but not noise jams either (some proper Crazy Horse vibes).

Standout songs are Fanny Dog, My Lady's On Fire, Cry Cry Cry, Shoot You Up and The Main Pretender.

He is clearly a talented guy but this is probably his most rounded album in m opinion along with Manipulator and last years self titled one.

I have been very impressed by the new First Aid Kit record after a few listens. The last two tracks are great.

Also, the Jeff Rosenstock album is not bad. The last track is good to listen to when you are pissed off.

Tried the War on Drugs yesterday morning. I think I tried it before but 'wasn't in the mood' or something, but really struggled thru the opener and by the time he started singing in the second, I was reaching for the off button like Bruce Willis in a crap 'the world will blow up if you do not press this button in time and you've literally got about -27 seconds left going by the editing' type ending type way.

Cool. Maybe you can come back in six months time and tell us again you don't like them

One for the folk and Americana fans. If you've not heard her before, 'To be Still' is a great album, I think she's great. Here's the new single:

Also had a listen to the new Unknown Mortal Orchestra too today, but it will need another go when I'm in the right mood.

New Oneida.  Album out March 9th.  First official album, barring singles and EPs, in 6 years or so. Back to shorter songs too by the looks of it
