tv coverage
« on: March 17, 2002, 02:09:45 am »
I am getting really pissed off with ITV's ( :wanker: )coverage of liverpool's games. should have timed it, but i think tonight we saw less than 2 fucking minutes of highlights on "(Manchester Utd's) The Premiership".

"Here are the Premiership's leaders..." - 20 mins later - "oh, and i think liverpool might be in with a shout, so here is someone scoring, can't remember who, f*ck it..."

do ITV realise that Munters Utd have their own tv station already?

fair do's, they are catering for the greatest number of glory fans in the country, but lfc have a lot too!
(originally, that wasn't meant to be ironic, but i think it turned out to be!)

:wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker: :wanker:       :upyours: :upyours: :but:

Fucken disgrace, Mancs had almost a 1/2 the show tonight.

Its what we expect now, but this was a bit of a piss-take.

I dont think ITV were allowed to show any more than that as the game was played live on Sly TV.....i may be wrong tho.

Having said that, Des is a twat, El Tel is a muppet and ALL ITV football coverage is gash.  :but:

I've got used to the fact now, that when United play on a Saturday, you can guarantee they'll be given a good 1/2 hour at the top of the show.

I've also got used to the fact that they seem to think that every other club in the Premiership are peripherial to the planning of the show.  It's almost like the other 19 clubs get in the way kinda thing.

I'm constantly pissed off at the way that ITV pay scant regard, not only to Liverpool, but to the rest of the clubs in the Premiership.  But, it's as you said Gareth, Sky allow ITV only limited highlights, so yer made to put up with it.

Was'nt aware that Sky restricted ITV coverage if match shown live earlier in the day.

In this case ITV show on 23rd Feb when Man Utd played Aston Villa in a noon K.O. should have had limited highlights also. Did this happen?

I very rarely watch Sat night show as I think its crap. I cant see Premier League giving contract to them again.

Same as. I turned it off last night an started to watch a video of The Big Yin. If i wanted to watch Man Yoo EVERY week i'd subscribe to their tv station.

The worst thing is that ITV totally disregard other teams if the big 3 are playing. I think their theory must be "all the teams will get exposure at some point, we'll just show them when they play L'pool, Arse and Utd"

Roger, the PL would gladly give them another contract if Granada/Carlton etc paid the same amount as last time! The problem is they wont. I think they've realised they paid far to much in the first place.

BRING BACK MOTD!

i'm pretty sure when lfc beat mu at anfield, which kicked off at 12.30/12, there were extended highlights in the evening (as an example).

itv have fucked up what should have been a simple audience-winner: copy MOTD exactly, but with different guests & commentators. instead they messed with a proven format. muppets.

Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports 1 is far better.  :) You get good amount of action from all the games. And it is such a low-budget show you just wanna scream laffin!

But whilst on the subject of Sky, their live coverage of Liverpool is attrocious. Gray and Tiler wont here a good word said about us, and cant go more than 5 mins without saying something like "ManU wouldnt do that" or something along those lines.

Tiler just goes "oh and Heskey makes it 1-0" and "good left foot from Riise, 2-0" when we score, but when Boro score what is nothing but a consolation goal he nearly has a heart attack with "SOOOOUTGAAAAAAATEEEE".  :wanker:

davro I am surprised Tiler didn't raise his voice when he said Riise (judging by what you are saying as I was at the match and was (thankfully) spared the sky commentators) as he normally does.

I think we're all just feeling nostalgic for Alan Hansen.

Sky have never allowed any more than three minutes of highlights (on either BBC or ITV) for Premier League games that they have already shown live.

It happened to us with the game at Anfield v Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, too - live on Sky, and only three minutes on ITV.

The only exception is on the last day of the season, or if ITV pay Sky extra for sub-rights to extended highlights.

I don't like Sky, but when they're shelling-out over Ł300m a season for exclusive live coverage, you see their point.

On the other hand, Sky can't show highlights of games until ITV have shown them.

rumour has it there is a poll going on and should make it's way to us shortly regarding a Liverpool tv station, the poll asks if we would be prepared to pay Ł6 a month.

maybe the anti-lfc bias (in our opinion) is a reaction to having Hansen, Lawrenson and co on the bbc. having said that, Lawro & Hansen were at times our worst critics.

Ł6 a month for lfc tv - not too bad. would that include live games? i'd probably save spending Ł6 in a pub by staying in for every match. :)

If the Mancs's effort is anything to go by (and expect a carbon copy because they will both be Granada stations) you won't get any live first-class matches! I believe they show the entire match after midnight the day after the match and Reserve/Friendly games live but you are still relying on Sky & ITV etc.

This may change after the next TV contract because the clubs may decide to go for individual bargaining/retention of TV rights.

In any event I'm on ITV Digital so wouldn't get the channel. Could'nt afford any more on the Digital Bill anyway - already paying about Ł40/month!

One thing that puts me off the Title Sequence on "The Premiership" is the smirking face of Sour Alex towards the end. Presumably this would have to change if we won the league...

yeah we'd get Misery Guts scowling, then a Munter Utd player being fouled, as if to say: look, they would have won it, but they were robbed by cheaters. or is that just paranoia creeping in?  :)

i'd rather pay Ł6 and wait 24hrs to see an lfc game than watch the poultry highlights we get from (sh)ITV. plus if you get the reserves as well... that really would put an end to my support of my local team (Oxford utd)!

Blimey, this is getting a bit stupid now!

Theres nothing wrong with Tiler, he's probably the best commentator out there at the moment, and has been for some time (IMO).

As for Gray, he wet himself when Riise smacked in his goal against the Mancs. I dont think bias is his problem, more that he has a tendancy to talk out of his arse once in a while ;). having said that, he does come out with some decent stuff too.

Tiler might be best commentator in your opinion Gareth, but on Sat. he had an orgasm when Southgate scored and added "there's hope yet".  Hardly unbiased. Can only think he wanted a draw.

Andy Gray can talk sense on occasions but is so keen to keep his bosses happy, Sky and through the obvious links MUtv, he finds it hard to be unbiased.

all itv coverage sucks the fat one
and the vast majority of commentators are wankers
any time utd play in europe the utter shite that comes out ot their mouths about theatre of dreams/actors/finales, i mean fuck off.
and that fanny who did the commentry on the 7up cup final for itv last year was laying it on a bit thick during the penalties.
andy gray said of gerrards goal last year against utd was "above the top drawer" what????
great goal and all that but come on!
and what gives ally mc cock the right to talk when he never played in that league?
sort of went off on one here but the beauty of going to a match or watching it in a boozer is that you don't really focus on what these arses are saying.
it's only when you watch a rerun you cringe.

Didn't McCoist have one or two highly unsuccessful seasons with Sunderland?

I think this programme has improved after a truly dreadful start (yes it's still dreadful though).

Manchester United's game was the biggest and most amazing game of the day in the premiership, but I think it's just symptomatic of all commercial tele.  There's STILL an element of fairness and impartiality on the BBC, therefore they would probably have had Bolton v Derby (an absolutely crucial game) as one of the main matches on Saturday for example.  But ITV is 100% purely about getting the largest number of viewers possible.  We have benefitted from this as well in terms of coverage, although not to the same extent as the Mancs.

All hail the BBC.

Mind you, I did like Terry Venables' quip on Saturday.  They showed a clip of the five remaining outfield Sheff Utd players in that weird game and Terry goes : "Yes Des, it's a new formation.  It's called 5".

The most classic thing was switching between Sky and ITV at half time to see some "pundit" twat declaring the Premiership a "2-horse race" between the Mancs and the Arse...45 minutes later we were top of the table..

2 be honest, i wasn't really thinking of tiler, or any of the other commentators, more of des, el tel, bob wilson and the program as a whole, when i said itv was shite. the commentators are probably the best feature.

i don't really give a fuck what the commentators or experts say though, so long as they show more of our games.

The Premiership on monday night is a load of bollocks, Ally is not funny and gabbys only there because she`s a "daddys girl"  F**kin hell ITV sort it out !
We dont want to see some goon eating a pie and jumping around at a game we want to SEE THE GOALS and ACTION !
As for the "Tactics Truck "   Just seems like a little place for Townsend to spy on any girls (or boys)! behind some tinted glass!!!
If you think their coverage of football is crap they have a really LAME attempt at a motoring programme called "Pulling Power" If anyone on this site knows anything about cars you know that "Driven" pisses all over it!!!
I know BBC do a good job but ,maybe Channel 4 could do a good job  ??? :o

I heard James Richardson on the radio last night giving Italian view on trouble in Rome last week.  Consensus is that UEFA will hit Batistuta and Lima with lengthy bans for starting it in Batistuta's case and carrying it further for Lima.

Also, possibility of playing away from Olympic stadium to punish club. I would expect UEFA officials to be keeping a close eye on how Roma (and Gala) behave tonight.

He sounded pissed off with how Channel 4 have pushed Serie A to such a late, or early, time. Incidentally, for anyone interested in European football this is on Talk Sport every Monday 8-10pm.  Its better than you'd expect on this station.
