1-1 equaliser from Azankpo.  Lost the ball in midfield and 1on1 with the keeper chips it over Atherton.

Nice, neat and tidy, playing in that Salah role by the looks of it.

Nice one

Mad to think he could play this tournament for another five years before being too old!

interesting to see the players are using ‘first team’ squad numbers ie not 1 to 11.  Obviously those that have played in friendlies already, especially this latest trip, already had one but the others playing now also eg Boyes and Neco.  Probably feels quite a proud moment to get a squad number, even if it is in the 70s or higher.

I don't think he'll make it in the top flight. Maybe the lower leagues but his decision making is really poor

That's because it's officially classed as a first team game.

How does the Oldham team compare to what they would field in the league? No idea how seriously these teams take it.

Think whilst it's still group games not very seriously but that changes once it's the knock outs.

Can make changes but have to play four main players

For EFL Clubs[2]
Minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting XI. A qualifying outfield player will be one who meets any of the following requirements:
Any player who started the previous or following first-team fixture
Any player who is in the top 10 players at the club, who have made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions that season
Any player with 40 or more first-team appearances in their career
Any player on loan from a Premier League club or any EFL Category One Academy club.

Decent game for the lads. Unsurprising that the goals they conceded were a bit naive, being a youth side versus men, but they very easily could have won it and scored 5/6. Lewis and jones were the best players on the pitch for me. Jones can still frustrate at times with his decision making but he was still by far the most dangerous attacker. Hit the post, had another well saved and put the ball on a platter for Duncan and Bearne at different times.
Lewis looked sharp in a midfield role. Likely see more of him there as opposed to LB this year as we look to develop Larouci there.

Bobby Duncan seems in a hurry to play first team football.  The Echo are reporting that they are looking for a loan deal for him, preferably abroad but presumably no chance of being a top level league as he is unproven at U23 level let alone senior.  Probably better than hanging around in the U23s but a bit risky at his age.

It’ll leave the U23s really short of attacking options with Glatzel out for some time with his ACL, and Bearne still an U18 player and probably better playing off a striker.  I don’t think they can rely on Brewster playing every game for them, and there are no other strikers that I can think of.

Seems a season too early for a loan what with him only joining the U18s last year. Between the U23 league, Checkatrade Trophy, UEFA Youth League, getting some training time at Melwood, and if he's lucky maybe even some minutes in the League Cup and FA Cup, there's a season of development ahead of him if he stays.

Have to say that I thought a few more players would be off (chirivella, ejaria, Shamal George) or out on loan (Curtis Jones, Herbie Kane, Adam Lewis, Christie-Davis).  Bit disappointed they’re not.  They all need to go or go on loan for their own development.  Obviously Arroyo is going to miss out being injured but he can’t play in the UK when he gets fit so that’s tough.  Not sure what’s happened to Liam Coyle.  Assume injured because I don’t think he’s appeared at all in pre-season.

I think outgoing loan/sales to League 1 and 2 as well as outside the UK can still happen until the end of the month? I think it's just incoming PL and Championship deals which have the early deadline?

Another season in league 1 would be a waste for Kane. Got to be testing himself at a higher level. Hopefully gets a decent forgein loan, bundesliga 2? Instead of waiting until January to try the championship again.

Ejaria has gone to Reading. It's a loan but they have to buy him at the end of the season.

Reading it, it says Klopp is keen for young players to go aboard to play. Think Klopp rates him and wants him to get game time.

Larouci has recently been added to the first team mug shots on the LFC site, along with Hoever who was training with them for the second half of last season anyway.  Probably means he’ll be training with them now but dropping down to play for the U23s as and when.  Don’t know if that means he has overtaken Lewis or whether Lewis, being a year older, is now better served going out on loan, or simply seeing if he can dominate games at U23 level, and maybe moving back to left mid.

Larouci seems to put himself about a lot, has loads of agility and from the outside- a lot of passion and never-say-die attitude. He is very athletic as well and probably a lot bigger than Lewis. Looks like he is being groomed to deputise for Robbo.
These 3 appear to be the next gen after Trent- Larouci, Hoever and Brewster. Jones is 50/50 but he played well against Oldham.
