New contract for Curtis Jones, great news
Wow, great news this, I was getting worried this wasn't going to happen the way things were progressing.
Hopefully, he gets a loan move now at a decent level and shows his talent.

U23 have a game against Chelsea tonight.  Good chance of Brewster and Elliott playing?

The pics and profiles of the new U18s have finally gone up on the LFC website.  Always interested to find out if they’re local and when they joined.

Turned up at Stamford Bridge. Sold out and said nonaway end because Liverpool didn’t want any. A few disgruntled reds walking about. Home to watch on television.

Watching on LFCTV and only one lower stand appears to be occupied. Both main stands (behind the goals) are empty.
There was a two-minute interlude where Liverpool’s three-man attack squared up against United’s three-man defence and basically stalked them back into their own penalty area, like battle-hardened mountain wolves closing in on a flock of geriatric sheep.  Barney Ronay at Anfield @barneyronay Sun 19 Jan 2020 20.36 GMT

If you look to the right of that stand it looks like a group of reds fans there with stewards in attendance.

Keeper's playing well so far but he's seen far more action than I'd like.

You're right. About 30-or so Reds.

Quality goal form Michy Batshuayi as I type.

Chelsea were comfortably better that half. A mix of players who'll barely train together and chelsea having a quality edge in some areas.

Nearly 3-0 to Chelsea there. Kelleher saved well and has generally made up pretty well for his first half fuck up. Not entirely sure how Chelsea didn't score the follow up there, bouncing it off the bar...

Harvey Elliot goes down in pain after an absolutely shite challenge. Not even a free kick. He's back on though, if a little ginger.

Have to say that Chelsea are pretty much wandering through us at will here. We're really not at the races today.

Not sure but their team look HUGE. At this level that's quite the advantage. A lot of these big lads look really good in these games because of the physical advantage but that disappears when they get to the adult game and some fade away. Having said that a lot of this Chelsea team look pretty fancy.

I should also say that we've looked very out of sorts.

And as I say that Chelsea wander up and score again, sending two of our defenders out for pie and chips before slotting home into the corner. Poor old Kelleher. 3-0.

Outside rudiger and batshuayi, no

Think you're underselling btheir over technical quality and general coaching behind them.

Don't think so, although Rudiger and Batshuayi are playing. Apart from them I think the age profile is pretty similar. They are probably one of the two best academies in the country though and while ours is good, it's not that good. That's the impression I have anyway, although I may be wrong.

It ends 3-0 to Chelsea who were in comfortable control throughout really. Quite like the look of Harvey Elliott though. Kelleher did well - bit unlucky that his one mistake led to their first goal.

I was there and most of them appeared to be connected to Brewster. He pissed the coaching staff off by spending a good 10/15 minutes with them after the game, Critchley had to send someone out to get him and Dixon-Bonner back in.

We were woeful. Chelsea's game intelligence, movement off the ball and on the ball ability was levels above ours - especially in midfield.

Just clocked Chelsea had a played called Nii Lamptey, prompted me to google the original....fucking hell that poor bloke must have broken about 80 mirrors!
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Recorded the game on LFCTV and wished I hadn't bothered, we were terrible, Chelsea could have won by more.

In midfield they just completely controlled the game, Brewster never really had a kick.

In both the Spurs and Chelsea games we looked analogue in a digital world.  Powerful, technical, individually talented 'raw' youths cutting through us as our players looked at the dugout for someone to bail them out.

It's probable that of the three teams maybe one player might eventually make it into the respective first teams (ignoring the existing first teamers who played in the games) so it's maybe not a big deal that we looked so far off the level.  Even still, it's disappointing.

I don't think it's right to single individuals out but it was frustrating to see some players who have been on the fringes of the first team for a while looking like they've stagnated.  I understand development isn't linear so hopefully they'll get some first team involvement this season and that will act as a catalyst.

They'll learn more getting pumped by Chelsea and Spurs than in most other games at the incredibly disjointed U23 level. (Hopefully!)

That's huge - if he can get in to the full international squad and get some minutes we'll be able to register him in the UK - maybe there's life for him as an LFC, or at least some transfer value, yet!!

What is happening to the players when they step up from U18 to U23? It never seems to be the issue when they step up from U16 to U18.

Okay, if the quality of opposition is much higher at U23, why do the players look so clueless? No structure, no support play, no adjustments in-match.

What are they being coached? It is okay to lose but at least there has to be some sort of structure and pattern of play.
