Archer Season 3 could also be a contender.
I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.

Shout out to season 1 of Planet Earth.

I was going to say Planet Earth. The electrical retail industry sold countless HD TVs playing it in stores

The World At War...a single 26 part series, a landmark in broadcasting and still the high-water mark for documentary film makers some 45 years later.....it's no Blacklist like, but still

Probably would have gone for True Detective season 1, but The Wire season 4 is hard to beat.

There's also crossover between it and R+M, as we saw in season two. There's a code in journal 3 when the codes when is translated using the cypher it says  Rick Was Here. ;D

And also in R+M when objects held by Stanford by the portal are ripped out of his hands and then appear in Rick and Morty season two, at the point where there's several portals. ;D

Dependent upon my mood it's invariably one of the three David's that are always foremost in the fight for best ever.

Lynch, Milch, Simon.

The list is certainly...errr...interesting.

Even if it is extremely limited to US 21st century television...Deadwood?

There's lots of links between the two. IIRC, in "The Time Travelers Pig" Justin Roiland plays Blendin Blandin...he was in G-F to fix time travelling fluxes, which I always thought was a nod to R+M.

In this seasons opener to R+M there is what I thought was a nod to G-F. In this image I saw Mabel and Dipper in the background...in the bottom left of this image, the hairband and cap? I thought it was just me projecting...but....others thought it too.

I think deep down we all really know the best but I'll just throw in a few that  I haven't seen mentioned

Spiral - absolutely loved it and can't wait to see her again  :)

Battlestar - absolutely loved it. Life never the same after it was gone  :'(

Curbs - absolutely love it

Edge of Darkness - without seeing it again I'm not sure how good it really was or how it stands up but at the time it was essential viewing

Cracker - Ditto

Probably controversial but...first two seasons of Lost anyone? If you appraise them on their own, without letting the seasons that followed colour your judgement, there's no denying they're highly entertaining. Got everyone talking at the time too.

I'm not saying greatest ever, but I think at it's peak it deserves a mention.

I watched it recently along with A Very British Coup, Our Friends in the North, GBH and a few other classics. I thought they all held up well. The problem for modern audiences is the resolution and production values.

Dexter season 4 is superior to season 1 in my opinion. Should have ended the franchise right there.

The Wire season 4 is the best on the list provided.

Season 6 of Red Dwarf.  Doesn't get better than that.

But the Wire would be pretty high up to.
"And on the pedestal these words appear: 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains."
