Not sure what the point was about the article, felt more like a lazy summary of the history of Cyprus with thick brush strokes on the invasion of Cyprus.

When you read the above quotes, one might forget that it's not "Turkish side of Cyprus" and "Greek side of Cyprus".
It's actually Cyprus and "occupied" Cyprus. The north part of Cyprus isn't just not recognised by Cyprus, it's also not recognised by the wider community. The north is still considered as illegally occupied by Turkey and is only recognised by Turkey. There is no dispute between either sets of fans on that issue.
