Shoulda picked him and his brother together, you waster. I would have and was gonna. God, how do i reeeeeech these kids??

That was my rather short lived plan  :D  A brotherly team up would've been lovely.

Needed to grab Passlack while the going was good though. Ridiculously lack of quality at RB.

Fucking hell this is all way too hipster for me, I have absolutely no idea who most of these players are.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Quite confident I'll get my guy at LB. Got some decent fall-back options as well in case one of you cheeky fuckers pinches him ;D RB is a real shit show though, glad I moved early there.

I was tempted with Sessegnon.  Think he's going to be a brilliant player.

But like TAA not sure full back will be his future position, as they are such threats going forward.

7 goals from left back before your 17th birthday is a ridiculous goal return (although he might have been playing left wing for a couple of them)

Yeah he's been used further forward a fair few times.

Cracking prospect and one I'm glad we're linked with.

What's the voting criteria for this. What we think their potential is? Or what they have achieved so far?

I don't think it was ever outlined. Personally, I'll be going off peak potential as that's really what picking under 23s is all about. Only a handful have achieved anything and none of these guys are anywhere near their peak.

I'd just like to be able to look back at my 11 and say 'I told you so'  ;D

I'd say the opposite - potential's great but it isn't tangible. If we'd done this three years ago Markovic would have been a first round pick and Mahrez wouldn't have been on the map. I think the way to balance the two is probably to ask which 11 players you'd most want as part of our squad.

Football is all about opinions (right and wrong) whether players are established or the next big thing. Why do an under 23 draft if we're only basing it on achievements? Seems a bit mad.

Who will be this year's round 11 Dybala.

No idea how you didn't make the final of that last draft. Nicholls' team is pretty embarrassing looking back on it! Hindsight though, I guess.

I get that, but in practice people judge the potential of a player based to a large degree on how good they are already, and the closer a player is to that top level the better the chance is they're going to fulfil their potential. There's a reason why only one or two 17 year olds have been picked so far.

I'm not saying it should be based only on achievements, just that the two should be balanced out about equally, which is why I suggested the 'who would you be most excited for us to sign' criteria - though I think the teams that would hypothetically fit together best on the field should also be rewarded. Surely it's about finding a blend of great young players throughout the world and forming a team that can face off against everyone else's, otherwise how do you judge people's draft teams head to head?

Bumping it down from U25 to U23 changed the game. In the U25 draft we were trying to build the best team, but with U23s being that extra bit younger you've got to base it on potential.

Sheer Magnetism's obviously right as well, all other things equal you'd take the more proven player over the unproven one. But if I feel a kid might just become the next Pele, I'll vote for him regardless of his age.

Of course, players like Varane are obviously going to be worth more than someone like Sarr. One is already doing it at the highest level at Real and the other is hotly tipped but only at the very start of his career. But equally we've seen some picks of more established 'names' who aren't performing well right now (or even for a few seasons) and it would be silly to see those players rated over youngsters who have been performing brilliantly in their league/age range. You can only beat what's in front of you, of course.

I think the 'excited to sign' criteria is a good idea though  :)  That puts younger players and more established names on even footing.

In any case, the team with all the biggest names will win the draft. That's how it's always been. I'm not playing to win though, I'm playing to be where Lawnmo is saying 'I told you so'  ;D

Still remember the outrage where Lawnmowerman's (awesome) team did not make the final  ;D

After all the picks are made, would love to dig out that thread to see how all the players are doing.
