You wouldn't have taken that if offered at the start of the season. We've exceeded expectations so far but would be disappointing not to finish 2nd now.

What's the final round of fixtures looking like?

True enough. The surprise package are Essex of course. Unbeaten so far - and even making a decent fist of their current fixture after looking to have been dead and buried after Day One.

We play them in the final round. Not sure who you fellas have got. Rain probably.

Hampshire having an absolute mare.

29/6 needing another 155

Looks like Somerset will be joining Warwickshire in Div 2 next year.

Cheers David. Can see both Yorkshire and Middlesex winning those so we could end up 4th by the time Sangakkara scores his inevitable hundred against us. Essex the champions were bowled out for 76 the other day!

They still won by 108 runs though.

Finn got 8 wickets in Lancashire's 2nd innings.

How has he been doing this summer.

Lancs on top at at Old Trafford. Surrey 112/5. Just gone off for bad light. Pretty gloomy today up north.

Yorkshire also doing well at Chelmsford. Essex 127/5. Yorkshire need another 4 or 5 points to ensure they're safe.

Somerset doing alright against Middlesex in the relegation clash. They're 174/3. They need to win well and hope Hampshire don't. Hampshire v Warks is yet to start due to rain.

Would like to see Middlesex go down personally.

Somerset need the bowling bonus points, which can only be picked up in the first 110 overs of the first innings. So if Middlesex declared now on 1 for 1 they would stay up.

A Welsh team is being charged for bringing the game into disrepute for doing just that.

Surrey declared v Lancs on 201/8, presumably to stop Lancs picking up their final bonus point. Southern pricks!

Table on the Beeb has Surrey in second, did they win their last game and go above Lancs? And does that table include today's bonus points does anyone know?

It's been done a few times now. Glamorgan did it against Lancs and Derbyshire.

How are that side from Pembrokeshire being charged though as they did not break any league rules?

Middlesex not happy. Somerset being accused of preparing a poor pitch. Eleven of the 13 wickets to fall on the first day fell to spin and Somerset opened with a spinner. No doubt Strauss will be on the blower to the ECB's Cricket Liaison Officer.

I'd rather Hampshire went down by the way. Never liked them and even though I never do get round to going, the chance of watching Lancs in London would be good.

In other news Lancs have signed Keaton Jennings. Decent signing on the face of it unless his England experience has ruined him completely!

Feel a bit sorry for Durham though, they're getting ransacked, read Onions is leaving at the end of the summer too.

Looks a good signing for Lancs this. Jennings is obviously having a poor run of form this season but he's still young and shown his class in previous summers.

Will be interesting what Lancs do with their openers next season. Could go with Hameed and Jennings and push Alex Davies down the order. There's also Rob Jones who looks reasonably promising. I wonder if this signals the end of Chanderpaul. He's 40 odd and only signed a 1 year contract. Could be that he goes and Davies goes down the order to fill that gap.

In terms of Durham, I feel sorry for them. They've lost a lot of good players as a result of their relegation. I don't think you can bracket Onions into that category though. He's a good player but the impression i got was that he's leaving due to the length of contract offered to him. Not surprising Durham don't want to commit a 2 year contract to a 30 odd year old seamer who has experienced injury problems

Yep - they also lost Stoneman and Borthwick last year and Paul Coughlin (their T20 captain) this season. They seem to be doing great things up there in terms of producing players. Second only to Yorkshire at the moment probably. But at the end of the day if the other teams pay them more or the player feels they have a better chance of international cricket off the back of a move then they'll move. That's life. Also worth taking into consideration that some of the England selectors are tied in with counties. For example Mick Newell (Notts director of cricket) is on the ECB selection panel and Angus Fraser at Middlesex also on the panel. That for me is a conflict of interest.

That's a shite last half an hour to the session for Lancs. 70-odd for 1 to 84-5 in the blink of an eye.

Beyond Warwickshire being the worst team and Essex the best team this season, there's basically nothing between the other 6 teams in Div 1. If Notts and Worcs get promoted them I think it'll be even tighter next season. Taking nothing away from Essex but on paper they aren't the best team in the division. Put it this way I don't expect them to run away with the title next season.

Think it'll be Worcs and Northants. Notts having a bad end to the season with defeat to Worcester and seemingly struggling against Sussex.

Hope not! Surrey collapsed from 154/0 to 174/6, part timer Livingstone with 5. Good finish in prospect, Surrey effectively 130/7. Wouldn't want to have to chase too many more.

Somerset look in good shape to beat Middlesex. Think the BBC table has been updated to account for bonus points. Somerset are 16 points behind currently and will get 16 for the win. What happens if teams finish level? Somerset will have won a game more, will that keep them up? Middlesex were deducted 2 points at some stage which could prove very costly.

Think a draw will keep Hampshire safe even if Somerset win. Looks like they'll be chasing around 200 to beat already relegated Warwiickshire. Good finish to the season and looks like top 3 is safe as Yorkshire are a long way behind Essex, looks a draw at best for them.

Surrey have 46 batting bonus points, 18 more than the next best. Only won twice all season but that's enough to have them second even though Lancs and Yorkshire have won 4 each.

If teams finish level on points, most wins determines placing, then fewest defeats, then most points from head-to-head results, then most wickets taken, then most runs scored.

176 the target.

Sangakkara last innings is a 35 not out.

Finishes with a FC average of 52.41 (57.40 in tests) with 64 FC centuries and 86 FC half centuries. Tidy.

Sanga stranded 35* in his final innings. Lancs wrap up the last three wickets for 1 run and need 176 teams finish second this season. I reckon it'll be close.

One of the modern greats, no question. His technique shone through regardless of whether he was playing Test cricket or T20. I love that. Joe Root has something similar going and can be said to be his successor I think.

He went for a battling 5. 20/4, just another 430 needed to win.

Another stat for you all, Alex Davies became the first Lancs keeper ever to score 1,00 First Class runs in a season. Fairly surprised by that.

I ain't gonna defend Ballance's inclusion in the squad. I think there was a case for playing him v South Africa because of his phenomenal start to the season. But he's done absolutely nothing since.

I'm very surprised by that keeper stat. Engineer was a decent batsman wasn't he? And I thought some Lancy keeper would have passed 1000 runs between the wars, when Lancs were half decent.
