What's wrong with that? It's a tactic used and suggested by a lot of people. Hoddle is a tit but that's a fair suggestion. Let them have the ball, draw them out, leaves more space to counter in to.

Rooney with the pace killing 30 yard square switch - it's one-trick pony stuff. It's his "I'm a midfielder" thing to do.

What's wrong with it is Malta are shit. It's a legitimate tactic against teams that are actually interested in attacking.

This is the guy the media want as England manager.  I can see it now "Stop winning the ball back lads let the Germans build up a head of steam. Then we'll have them exactly where we want them."

The only reason Rooney announced his retirement after the next world cup is he knows the manager will have to pick him throughout the qualifying stage.

Mental that there is another international week in like a month.

And again. Why is Rooney anywhere near the starting 11. I genuinely can't believe he's getting a game. It's like his dad's the manager or something.

England played well for about 20 minutes and ended the game as a contest. Since then England have threatened sporadically.

It's Malta, how long do you think they will retain possession? How many passes do you think they'll string together? And at what part of their phase of play or positioning would you suggest we take it off them to go and get that next goal?

"Let them have the ball" is ridiculous mate, England are winning and in general Liverpool will win against teams that park the bus, you probe and penetrate, probe and penetrate patiently and find ways, you don't give them the ball. You keep it.

Even Scotland beat this lot 5-1 away. The idea that England should be giving them possession to draw them out (which they wouldn't even if you let them) is ridiculous.

Giving park the bus teams the ball is very much a valid tactic that you will see a lot by bigger teams. Brendan used to talk about it a lot. It helps pull them up the park and creates space for the counter attack.

Hoddle's a tit but lets not try make out like letting the other team have the ball is mental. Loads of coaches do it. Klopp one of them.

Who need drawing out.
They're playing England away, they haven't come here expecting much possession, they are inherently going to defend. And how many times would that tactic work, if we draw them out then score it isn't gonna work again is it?
They are of little threat so you stick to a game-plan of dominating and finding away as England are better players - that's what Hoddle should be saying imo :)
