Oh. Never really given it much thought to be honest, but just assumed there was always an 'official' assistor attributed to every goal.

There's a few caveats and different rules for it by the looks of things, nice little read for half time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assist_(football) :D

Yep, don't want him getting injured before we play the Mancs.

From listening to the commentary you'd think this was one of the finest team performances the sport had ever witnessed.

Rooneys challenge being shown in the halftime show, and it looks a lot like the challenge United fans went berserk about in the Manc derby, from Bravos on Rooney.
Of course done by fatso its just a brave solid tackle, "all ball". Dick. Heads.

Fucking hell these pundits, criticise Sturridge for getting involved in play and now wanking off over Lingard.

The level of punditry is repeating over and over to just get it in.

Expert analysts slam Sturridge for being outside of the box, after his turn leads to the goal, because if he just hung around in the goal, Rooney would set him up instead.. Joy.

A win against Malta will get South Gate the job

This from Henry winter

Quote
FA chair Greg Clarke told guests in Royal Box before kick-off how impressed he's been with Southgate, who "commands the respect of everyone"
As unusual, his record as a football coach is totally ignored.
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”

Sturridge is just meant to stay in the box for the entire game apparently.

Then they praise Lingard for position on Sturridge's cross from a wide position.

Clueless.

With these two teams being the U8 lads they let have a kickabout on the pitch at half time?

Jesse Lingard getting praise for "movement" which appears, to my eyes at least, to consist largely of running in a straight line. Odd how he gets picked out for individual praise. ::)

Interesting, cheers for the link.

So if I read correctly, Hendo didn't get the assist here as it's under the FIFA ruling, but he would have got an assist under British football rules (Prem matches, etc).

Modern media mate - say something that'll create debate or hits/clicks or set an agenda - rather than comment on what has actually happened.

Though to be faor I'd be making up shite too after watching that 1st half.

Yeah but he looks alright, and he will look alright against more of this level of opposition through the group, then the media reckon England have sorted all the problems and world cup 2018 looking promising. Then the first half decent team gets played and Rooney plays midfield and end up losing, then it's too late. Happens every qualifying group.

Anyone else notice that according to Tyldesley it's more often than not the intended receivers fault for not being on the end of a Rooney forward pass, rather than the fact it was played straight at the defender?

"xxxx not quite on Rooney's wavelength there." and so on.
