true story about Ian B-F... he was playing in the Middle East on the European tour years ago. He was standing on the tee on 18, with 95 strokes already, hit his tee shot in the water and was DQ'd. Apparently back in the day, the tour had a 9 ball rule. You could only use 9 golf balls for the round. He ran out of balls, hence the DQ. Wouldn't have broke 100 on the day.

It seems he can still play a bit with his mates and shoot in the 60's from time to time. But he has a bit of the yips putting and crowds bother him. So when he plays in tournaments he's shit. With his mates, with no one around, he can still get it around the course.
thats a bit sad to be honest

that was the first open i remember and he was absolutely speechless after. seemed like a great bloke

must be so embarrassing to hit that high score as a pro.

edit: just reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Baker-Finch

its actually a sad read

David Duval was another player who had everything... pretty sure he hit a 59 once... then disappeared into nothingness.

late 90s early 00s he was right up there with tiger.

when he won the open i think everyone thought it would be the first of many. his game completely fell apart after that. his game crashed worse than wall street

some read that.i even remember his daughter mistaking the microphone for a lolly

feel sorry for him.

must be horrible. i know what its like to play shit golf. summer of 99 hurt me pretty bad. was a junior member in a club. every stableford i was lucky to break 10 points, no one wanted to play with me, i felt sorry for those that did. parents forced me to play every day when i knew i was gonna stink it up and i just wanted to take a break. "no no no all you need is practice"

no all i need is to get the hell out of here. its awful when you play so bad you literally dont know where the next good shot is coming from

Is anyone else annoyed that many of the commentators keep referring to the tournament being in Lancashire? No offence to our Lancastrian brethren, but it's in Merseyside. They get paid for this shit.

Not sure what channel you're watching on but Sky have referred to it as Merseyside on loads of occasions.

There is a piece about it on the Echo website today. I assume they've been told about their geographical mishaps and adjusted accordingly.

On a side note - has anyone been so far? I'm going on Sunday, what's parking like?

Parking good. Use one of the 5 park and rides. Drops you off five mins from entrance. £15 though! Take a MasterCard with you if you've got one. 10% off when you use it on site including ticket. Have a good day. I'm shattered!

You sense there are some low scores out there on moving day. It's been pissing it down for hours now (it was like driving in a monsoon earlier near the course) and the greens will be very soft and receptive. The weather is supposed to be much calmer and clearer tomorrow though so we could get a really good round of scoring.

Would like Spieth to banish his Masters demons though. And no, it's not because I've got money on him :D

-3 through 5 I thought we were gonna see Rory have a go at the 62 but he's given a couple back at the 8th and 9th. Spieth at -8 and a two shot lead again, he's gonna take some beating.

I don't mind Spieth. If he wins this one he'd just be a USPGA away from winning every major and he's only 23! Easy to forget just how good he is sometimes.

Think even Tiger would have gone under par today
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

He'll go down as one of the all-time greats after he finishes his career.

Some many people were blowing hot air up Mcllroy's arse a few years ago about how great he's going to be, how many majors he's going to win and how young he is etc etc.

I believe Spieth will be the one who actually achieves that greatness and breaks those records.  He's just a cut above.
