I loved the film, although I haven't seen it for decades, and as a result I have always loved the sci-fi trope of sentient robots (rather than AI). I've watched the first two episodes and it's been fascinating so far, really impressed with the behind the scenes stuff, especially the lazy humanity of the workers set against the precision behaviours of the hosts. The only irritation so far has been the snotty overwritten British story line writer, the character was too much of a cliché and the actor was the weakest link in an otherwise strong cast.

Yes hes the worse person in it. unless hes a robot who lines were done by a over the top story writer.

Spoiler
Ford killed Arnold, didn't he?

Nice power demonstration (best part of the episode imo) from the former and maybe he is the 'bad guy' after all and not Ed Harris (could he be looking to what happened to Arnold maybe? Probably reaching there I know) ?

Ford is shady as fuck, but that would be a stretch for me, as he'd obviously know it was him. And Harris referred to Arnold. When Ford showed the photo of him and Arnold last week, was there a clear shot so you could see Arnold? Interesting that the MIB is famous outside of Westworld, and popular thanks to his benevolent foundation.

I was reading earlier they mapped out the storyline for at least 5 or 6 series.

Surely at some point they must get loose.

It wasn't about getting the first 10 [episodes] done, it was about mapping out what the next 5 or 6 years are going to be. We wanted everything in line so that when the very last episode airs and we have our show finale, five or seven years down the line, we knew how it was going to end the first season -- that's the way Jonah and J.J. Abrams operate. They're making sure all the ducks are in the row.

Things like this make me a little wary. On the one hand, having an idea about where the show will go past the first season is good, it allows them to lay down things and leave plot threads in that will pay off later on. But having an ending already nailed down this early is a worry, you don't want to be so rigid that you cant explore new ideas and story-lines that may naturally develop during the writing process, because it interferes with your pre-set finale. Its also a little ironic given a big theme in the show is breaking out of pre-determined stories and not knowing what will happen once you break that loop.

Different beast entirely, but How I Met Your Mother suffered massively from this sort of thing. They had an ending settled when the first episode aired, and despite the entire story and their characters growing and developing far beyond what they initially imagined, they stuck to that ending rather than going with one that worked with the characters they ended up as. It felt massively awkward and ruined a lot of the work they'd done.

Loving this. Done all four now. Some interesting theories in the spoilers above. Hopkins is tremendous and that scene with Theresa in which he reveals his power was both unnerving and powerful in equal measure.

It was A Forest, by The Cure.

I had no idea myself, but I listen to a podcast - Watching Westworld - which talked about it. Recommend the podcast, btw, it's a decent recap and grounded theories.

Here's my theory and its more than likely totally totally wrong. And I came up with this when very drunk.

That it all about Heaven, hell and Earth you have Ford who is God and the workshops are heaven creating the plants, animals Human etc all seeing and know whats going on.

Of course you have Westworld that is Earth with his creations who are starting to have thoughts of a higher power having visions of Angels the men in suits even making statues of them to use them in their religion, hear a voice that is the holy spirit Arnold that is guiding them with things like Remember and Kill him.

And of course the Maze with hell at the center ruled by the Devil Wyatt.

The man in Black who is Mose trying to set the people free.

Even a snake in the form of a tattoo Wyatt is the head of the snake.

Dolores is Eve the first woman who also did the first sin by shooting someone and now seems to be cast into the wildness.

A Mexican girl who seems to be a prophet.

A prostitute who seems to be seeing the light. no washing feet fetish yet.

People being crucified and Teddy dying so people can enjoy their sins.

I told you I was very drunk and I was smoking weed.

Until something shows otherwise, I'll happily buy into this theory.

There's a scene in Ep. 4 where a guest appears to swap their gun for one belonging to a host. Trying to work out what the implication of this might be - other than not being able to shoot (kill) a host, can't see a major consequence.

Cheers, yeah I haven't really listened to The Cure so I never would have got that.

Yeah that was pretty much it, a little detail to further show how some clients treat Westworld like a game. The inability for a host to properly hurt a guest must take some of the fun out of it though, it's like playing with god mode.

Hate saying it but thought that episode was poor enough. It's moving at a snails pace at the moment. Maybe it's just the fact I was tired watching but couldn't really wait for it to be over. Only 1 or 2 good scenes in the whole episode.

The floorboard scene from episode 4 is easily my favorite of this show so far. Exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. I hope Mauve's "religious experiences" get explored further.

Spoilers are important in a thread like this, but there is absolutely nothing in that post to give away the plot. If you're that sensitive you might be better off staying out of the thread! :wave

It's less about plot and more about what pace to expect, if I go into an episode expecting big events then I spend the initial slow parts wondering when it's going to kick off rather than enjoying them. Some of the best episodes I've experienced have been those that I've gone into expecting the norm only for chaos to ensue.

Also it's not like I'm demanding or whining, just asking.

It's officially released material, so.

Anyway, I watched it myself, and it said at the beginning it's for the "weeks" ahead, not next week. So it covered the entire second half of the season, so nothing is spoiled at all, not even tone, or that things happen.

Spoiler
I Want To Know More About Westworld’s VR Porn Tanks

The religious undertones nearly worked this time the town they visited could have been sodom or gomorrah and if only Nitro was made from saltpeter you could have said they turn someone into a pillar of salt

Is it just me but does it seem to be slowing down? Lots of gunfights, Man in Black looking sinister but so slow.

For me the show isn't about the action my favorite parts are the chats.

But I have the feeling the first series is just about setting up the main story.

The action is pretty standard but so far the dialogue and plot hasn't lit any fires for me yet. I like intrigue, plotting and abnormally motivated characters (maybe I should just follow United) and Westworld has been pretty quiet/subtle for me so far.

I remember the Yul Brynner version which wasn't as subtle as this but I'm trying not to compare them.
