Back in November 2001, we we're dropped into an area of Southern Afghanistan (that over the years would become Camp Bastion), literally zero on the ground in terms of infrastructure or people, we had a rendezvous set-up with a 'local fixer' - those who would get everything taken care of - in a mud hut some 25 miles into sparse desert land, two local guys walk in, one takes off his khat partoog to reveal a 'LFC 2001 UEFA Cup Winners' t-shirt.
Been all over the world but Anfield is still my home.

Saw some cracking efforts in Ahmedabad earlier this year.

First day I was there, a hand painted t-shirt with what the painter had somehow misinterpreted as the head of a LION, rather than a liverbird… but rendered in red strokes with LIVERPOOL underneath.

Then, [outside Ghandi's old gaff] a bloke wearing some beat up black and orange adidas joggies, with a liverpool crest off a 2005 vintage shirt stitched onto it.

I didn't get a chance to go to the Ahmedabad LFC supporters club, but hoping to go back next year and rectify that.

Vietnam was great, too, but more for weird coloured fake kits. Saw loads of red Everton tops.

Yup, there are some bizarre kits over here, and while there are many Liverpool fans over here, you'll bump into plenty aswell wearing Liverpool kits who don't know the first thing about the club. Oddly enough Dortmund is the football shirt you see by far the most over here, there isn't a day goes by where I don't see upwards of 10-15 Dortmund kits, maybe it's the colour they like but you'll often see even groups of 4 or 5 teenage girls all wearing Dortmund tops. You'll see many other bizarre names on the back of kits as you drive around too. 'Pervert' accompanied by a number is a regular sight, weird creepy shit like 'touch me' or playboy bunnies on the back of some toddlers top too. Seeing something like Germany #4 on the back of a Chelsea kit also very common.....they're very much carefree when it comes to football kits over here.

Dortmund? -I lived there 2012-14 and I can't remember seeing a Dortmund top on the streets. Might not have been paying enough attention. to be honest liverpool tops were fairly rare as well, it was mostly ManU/Arse/Chelsea/Barca/Real.

When I first arrived a guy opened a cafe a couple of streets down from my apartment top of D1 before you hit Phu Nhuan. It was called 'coffee of dreams' and had an astroturf mini pitch moat entrance and a replica European cup in a case as soon as you walked in. Huge collection of signed kits incl the grey Torres era squad. I think he was trying to build it as a destination to watch games but he closed pretty quickly, probably because every street corner has a plastic seat cafe showing the games with much cheaper drinks.

I'm in Kenya at the moment, a country that loves it's football and a place I used to visit 4 or more times a year from mid 90's through to 2010/11. Wearing a footy shirt is what the younger kids do over here (say 10-25 years old) and many will have big vinyls or paint jobs done on their motatu's (independent buses) that they use to show their allegiance to a club. It's all Premier League. Nothing from anywhere else and almost every game is on live for free everywhere.
Travelling around the place this past 9 days it's really noticeable how absent we've become.
I haven't seen a single fake or real replica kit and just one motatu with YNWA across the back window. Meanwhile Chelsea kits are everywhere, closely followed by United and then Arsenal. A few Southampton / Wanyama tops too, but it's incredible how quickly we've disappeared.
I spoke to a few locals at a bar last night because the Leicester / Villa game was on and asked why. I got what I expected but it shows the importance of winning stuff. It doesn't matter if it's the Capital one or the EL, because here as in Thailand, Vietnam and the playgrounds up and down the UK if you aren't featuring as a regular in the finals of the cups then you aren't relevant.

Fair-weather as fuck obviously, until they've painted their motatu: that kind of commitment has to last for 5 years.

Not a shirt but a faraway tale , in 1989 me and the missus were just about to walk into a nightclub in bridgetown barbados when this huge scar faced Rastafarian gives me a stare then walks over to me ,
" you wanna buy some weed to get high inside man " he says very menacingly , id had a few by then so was feeling a bit brave  " nah your ok mate , lagers enough for me " i replied ...." where you from " he then asks ,
I'm from Liverpool I reply to him ...he looks at me and then goes " ah Ian Rush , my favourite player . We then proceed to have a good chat about the reds .

Not a kit, but year before last went on holiday to a little island off Cuba, and the guy behind the pool bar had a (fake) LFC bracelet thing on. Got chatting to him about it and he was a big fan.

Ended up giving him the new shirt I'd just bought before going out there as no chance he'd of been able to get one, plus for the whole 2 weeks he made sure I and anyone I was with got served before anyone else (even if a massive queue) because I was a Liverpool fan  ;D

Oh, hey, didn't even know there was a thread for this.

Every now and then I'll come across someone in my part of the world (central Connecticut, US) with a Liverpool kit.
Ran into someone a month or so ago with a Coutinho on.

Went to a WWE event in Birmingham and saw a big guy with Downing 19 in that controversial away shirt from 11/12 with the blue on.

Was more offended the shirt had Downing on.

Lots of LFC kits in Disney World Florida at the back-end of August.  Lots of Everton kits noted too, which surprised me.  Given the number of brits about though its probably not a fair reflection of Florida as a whole.
