On Thursday in Zurich, football's world governing body Fifa will announce the countries it has chosen to host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022.

There are four bids on the table for the 2018 World Cup, with England hopeful of beating Spain/Portugal, Netherlands/Belgium and Russia for the right to host the competition for the first time since 1966.

Five bidders are vying for the 2022 tournament: Japan, Australia, United States of America, South Korea and Qatar.

The decision on the hosting of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup™ tournaments will be revealed in Zurich on Thursday 2 December. You can follow all the candidates’ presentations and the announcement of the winners, LIVE here on FIFA.com.

A host of VIPs and renowned personalities from the worlds of sport and politics will be present in Zurich, supporting their home nations’ bids. The world’s media will also turn out in force, with some 1,000 journalists accredited to cover the event, and nearly 70 TV stations broadcasting live from Zurich.

The final presentations by the nine candidates begin on Wednesday at the Home of FIFA in Zurich. Proceedings open with the contenders to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The running order starts with Australia at 14.00 CET, followed on the hour, every hour by Korea Republic, Qatar, USA and Japan, who have the final starting slot at 18:00.

The candidates for the 2018 FIFA World Cup take to the stage on Thursday morning. Belgium and the Netherlands start the ball rolling at 9.00, followed by Spain and Portugal, England, and finally Russia at 12 midday. The running order was previously determined by the drawing of lots.

Following the presentations, the FIFA Executive Committee will gather to consider its verdict and vote on the choice of host nation for the forthcoming finals. The announcement is expected at approximately 16.00 CET, when FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter will open the envelopes to reveal the names of the winners before a live audience and the global media representatives at Zurich Exhibition Centre.

Stay tuned to FIFA.com, the official website of world football’s governing body, for full coverage of two enthralling days. Our LIVE reporting on events at the Home of FIFA begins at 14.00 CET on Wednesday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm hoping and praying that Australia can beat USA in the bidding in 2022.  It appears as though Australia's bid is the least profitable, but with the growth in the Asian markets, I'm hoping it isn't a problem.

Good luck to the English bid as well.  Think a world cup in England would be brilliant (with the exception of the inevitable media circus) and on the plus side,  it should hopefully catalyze the Liverpool Stadium Plans.

Think the 2022 bids are uninspiring to say the least.

Out of the 2018 bids, only interested in Holland/Belgium and Spain/Portugal but neither will get it, I don't think.

Be a nightmare if Russia got it.

Don't like any of the 2022 bids to be honest.  I wouldn't usually mind Australia but having been here long enough, I can tell that a majority of the people couldn't give a rat's arse about "soccer".  Similar to the U.S. I suppose except given the population difference, the number of people who are interested in football is bound to be much larger.  And Japan and Korea have already hosted a cup quite recently and that leaves Qatar.  And I'm not sure how Qatar will deal with the culture shock of seeing hordes of drunken fans to be honest.  And many people may be put off travelling due to it as well.

It won't be anything like Euro 96, plus I hold that tournament responsible for the twat quotient at football matches increasing.

Live in Brisbane mate.  Well, people do support the national team no doubt but the A-league games for instance attract paltry support.  And apart from when the national team play, I see little to no support for football.  Seems to be perennially relegated to SBS who seem to be the only channel to give a fuck about football.

I think Russia will get 2018, hope England do get it but not feeling confident. Only downside is all the whoppers will be out in full force if we do manage to get it.

The whoppers are always out in force during any World Cup, wherever it's held. I think it'd be great to have it here, because I'd love the chance to watch international teams other than England in the flesh.

I have to say though, this whole bidding process has brought home to many people (although perhaps not enough) quite how dodgy and behind-closed-doors all these deals and agreements are.

We're not going to get it, which is a shame cos I'd love to see a World Cup over here.

Anything but Russia and Qatar, will be a disaster if one or both got it.

England & the US will do for me, though of course I won't mind seeing Spain/Portugal or Holland/Belguim as both bids have four nations with great football history and great football culture.

Russia would be a horrible decision. You would have thought that after South Africa in terms of security and quality of the venues, Russia would not be considered

Netherlands/Belgium and Spain/Portugal bids would be better as they have quality venues to host matches. Only problems would be the worldwide appeal they have.

England have the god complex in terms of 'we invented football so its a certainty'. Certainly has the best venue selection out of all the above bidders. Even without the new Anfield, Woodison, and Olympic park stadium there are still plenty FIFA 4* and 5* stadia to put on a good show.

If England were to lose out on 2018 then they cant blame the panorama show for losing out. That would be a cop out for the fact that English football and England in general is just not viewed worldwide as a quality world cup venue. You can throw David Beckham, Cameron etc in front of the cameras all you want.

The 2022 bids look terrible. Korea wont get a sniff if they are about to go to war. Qatar would be terrible because of the climate. Imagine playing football over there at the height of Summer? Plus I'm guessing they will be building venues from scratch so we'll just get 20 identical indoor bowls that hold 80,000 (which wont sell out and look terrible on the cameras). Oh and if its a dry country I'm guessing Budweiser wont be happy ;).  But I suppose if they throw enough brown envelopes about they might get it.

Japan had it in 2002 so its too soon for them to get

So that leaves Australia and the US. Both credible bids and would host a decent world cup. Personally would prefer USA win because the time difference wouldn't be so bad. Few late night drinks down the pub.

PS - they've got no chance though!

PPS - reading comments slating the Qatar bid, apart from the climate, do any of you actually know anything about the Qatar bid or their proposal???

Qatar and Spain/Portugal me thinks

Was it the times that claimed they'd done a deal that guaranteed each other 8 votes???  I am not 100% sure of how the process goes, but isn't that over half of the votes they need already?

Will be very interesting to see how the decision goes.  Just can't see England getting the 2018 WC, and Australia / US are favourites for 2022.

Qatar have spent 10 times more than any of the other bidding nations - I just wonder how much of that was in brown envelopes though???

Russia I am not sure about. Would really love the World Cup in England but I don't think Russia would be as bad as its being made out. Australia would be a great venue.

World Cup in Australia will be a pain to watch on tv unless they play during the day there.

I hope Russia and Spain doesnt get unless it will be an all white players only world cup.

I think the games may be played in daylight hours in Oz, it will be the middle of winter there. Although that made no difference in SA.

You would seriously hope that the forever imcompetant FIFA would have looked in racism issues in certain bidding Nations.
