Mark Selby is out beaten 10-4[rubber duck ;)], not often the defending World champion is out on the first day of the tournament.

O'Sullivan wins 7 of the last 8 frames. Huge chance for him this year with Selby being knocked out.

Great for the tournament that Selby is out, completely opens up the whole draw.

I think Selby's half of the draw has more depth. Still got Trump, Higgins, Murphy and Allen in that side of the draw. If O'Sullivan had gone today the likely 8 in the second round of his half of the draw would've been Maguire, Robertson, Ding, Hawkins, Day, Haotian, Williams and Dott. O'Sullivan should make the final really if he plays anything like his best snooker.

Some of the basic shots you see some professionals do with ease he isn’t pulling off though. I don’t watch snooker all the time so I guess he is new on the scene?

Jones has got it back to 8-7 now. Not at all surprising that he's giving Murphy a match, looked at his odds pre-match but they were a bit skinny. Could only get about 9/4, wanted 3/1 ish.

If this Hawkins-Carrington match goes to a final frame decider you could be looking at a 2am finish. Absolutely torturous stuff, neither can score.

Scored a couple of late Ebdon games back in the day and fell asleep loads. Score was always wrong because we were always catching up on the balls we missed. One lad fell asleep for half an hour during I think it was a Neil Foulds match or Alan McManus match, woke up and hadn't missed a pot :D

Can't say I'm surprised :D

Potentially 5 frames left in this Hawkins match. Last one was nigh on an hour ;D

27 is like a ton in this match. I'm pretty sure the high break in the match is 82 and we're in the 16th frame.

Ding has just slayed Xiao Gudong with half a session to spare which will be great for recovery time etc.

Potential banana skin that. Xiao twatted Selby earlier in the year in Germany so it's probably a match both he and Ding would have rather avoided in r1, but the class showed.

Ding is by far and away the best player left in O'Sullivan's half of the draw. Hawkins could be dangerous too, but he'd need to raise his game levels judging by last night's showing. Williams and Robertson are big names, but neither should pose too many problems over a very long match.

They'll have the bonus of having the arena to themselves for the rest of the session, with the other match already finished.

Rickie Waldron through against Brecel. Not a great match by any stretch, but pleasing for Cestrian Rickie - and a nice omen for tonight, as he’s a big Red.

The problem is 2-fold. Jones has got a couple of days to get the nerves into his system and also it'll be best of 25 next, and the longer these games go on, the less chance there is for an upset.

Fair, but he got through to the QF a few years ago I think?

That's true but he's not built on 2012 whatsoever. He's had a dreadful 12 months and it was a bit of a shock that he got through qualifying to be honest.

Wilson is, conversely, having an excellent year. Got to the semis in China and Romania (which was a red hot field) and is at a career-high ranking. Will deffo be an interesting game tho.

If you were looking for an outsider for the World's then Ryan day - who twatted Wilson in Romania - is a very interesting bet. He's 40-1 at the moment and only Ronnie is having a better 2018 than him. 2 tournament wins and 3 quarter finals in his last 9 events.

I do like Day, but the fact he had to qualify is a bit off-putting. Not sure how much he'll have in the tank when we get into longer matches. He'll also play Ding in the next round. He should see McGill off with something to spare though.
