Piszczek was really good both as an attacking and defensive full-back, one of the best around for many many years in Germany, quality player.  Schmelzer was more traditional, and not at the level of Piszczek, but still not shy of getting forward and an important player. Full-backs have always been hugely important to his teams for sure.   And in Germany Klopp 'made' a couple of fullbacks from players playing in other positions. Erik Durm for example, who was looking rather good in that role, till injuries ruined his career.

It's just now he has two of the absolute best on both sides of the pitch.

Yep, it was a more traditional "one defensive fullback, one attacking fullback" set up that was common in most football for decades (and particularly in Germany with the "Piston"-like movement of the wingbacks in their old style 3-5-2 formations).

Getting two of the best fullbacks in world football, though - you'd have to let them both do their thing!

thanks  as for the Scottish press why are worrying that he missed a couple of friendlies as long as hes fit for the play offs in march.the most important thing is getting him and keeping him fit for the reds then next year we can see what happens.the greatest scot to play for us was and always will be king Kenny.

I Would rather he retired from international football and focused on Liverpool. He is a cut above the rest when Scotland play never looks happy and always happy to tell the truth how poor the squad are.

I said top quality, not top price.

One of those you mention may well be/become that player. I'm not sure Milner is beyond the odd game and if Robbo was out injured for 5 or 6 weeks him playing there for the 10+ matches this could be would see a considerable drop in the level we play at.

Klopp is happy for Milner to cover which is good. We don't need to buy anyone else at LB as yet.
