Black Ops 4
« on: October 12, 2018, 04:20:00 pm »
Anyone picked it up?

I got it yesterday afternoon and after playing a few games in regular MP and Blackout I can honestly say it's alot of fun. It doesn't feel futuristic though there is the odd gadget and such which is probably a little futuristic-ly OP

But the core gameplay like the weapons and the movement and map design is really solid. I played the beta and enjoyed it but they toned a few things down for final release which is a good thing.

I don't miss the traditional SP mode and I thought I would.

If anyone wants a game add me on psn: upinsmoke2k7

Actually enjoying it quite a bit, not interested in Zombies or Blackout to be honest.

First CoD for a long time that I have picked up and have actually enjoyed playing.  The movement and gun play is extremely good.  The additional health and longer time to kill actually makes the game feel a little less random and more about skill.  Map design is solid so far, even though it does have Black Ops 2 maps as core maps - I loved that game so I'm happy.  Blackout is great but the perks etc are a bit too complicated for a Battle Royale in my opinion, maybe I am just too basic for it.  It's a lot of fun discovering places I didn't expect to - for example landing on the mansion from Stronghold in Black Ops 3.

It's early days but so far so good - I managed to convince myself to buy WW2 at launch and was already regretting it by this stage.  That hasn't happened yet but who knows?

I basically ignore the perks in Blackout unless I happen to find a spot to hold indoors and remember I have them. Got one win in Duos and one in Squads (with three players)

It's everything I liked about PUBG, without the stuff I didn't like.

That's a good way to describe how I feel about Blackout.  PUBG has been my game for the last 9 months or so but can see this replacing it.  Would love it if they refresh it at some stage with a second map.

One thing I would say is that the sound design in the entire game is fantastic.  Genuinely love the variation in sounds as you move through different parts of the Blackout map.  The whole thing feels far more alive than anything on PUBG.

Took me ages to download it all but when I got going there I had no idea what was happening :lmao Still getting the hang of it. Tend to stick to team deathmatch but will venture across to Blackout when i'm a little more settled.

Its a decent all rounder. I like the KN 57. Hate the rampart 17.

Also on blackout if you can get the ABR 223 with a 4 x It's really effective cos the 3 round burst and holds the recoil well

I couldn't get used to the higher time to kill, so switched to Hardcore and am loving it now.

The spawns are awful and there are other things that annoy me, but overall the multiplayer is super fun (when not up against full parties).

Have no interest in Zombies or Blackout, so MP is where you'll find me  :wave

I agree with the spawns, they can be very frustrating.

The specialists don't feel as intrusive to the flow of the game as they did on Black Ops 3, but that just be my perception.  I'd still much rather they didn't exist but I can live with them for all the good things in the game.

Grabbed it yesterday and tried the MP last night. I got shot in the back, a lot. The spawning seems to be an issue, but I did only play a couple of hours.

Its definitely the most urgent thing they need to fix imo

Just feels like whenever you get a kill, you instantly get shot in the back unless you're really close to your teammates. If that happens to everyone, there's an issue with the spawns being so randomised that there's little semblance of map control. Would be nice if each team had a small section of the map where they can spawn and the other team isn't allowed into it, with no line of fire into it.

Spawning is an issue because the maps are so small and there are no spawn delays. Also because of tac deploy with seraph

Where does this game sit in terms of timeline? If I play it is somebody going to fly past me with rocket boots, land sideways on a wall and zap me with a laser beam?

Apparently it is set some time between 2025 (Black Ops 2) and 2065 (Black Ops 3) I believe.  There are no rocket boots, wall running or laser guns (thankfully).  All the MP guns are standard SMG/AR/DMR/Sniper/Shotgun categories.  There are still specialist abilities which feel (to me) a little toned down from Black Ops 3. For example theres a grappling hook ability that will help you move across the map fast or get to high ground, but its limited use.

It plays a lot like Black Ops 2 with some enhancement in basic movements - you can climb higher obstacles and there are less limits on sprinting for example. The Class system is very similar and a lot of the perks and wildcards are the same.

Blackout is even purer CoD (although a Battle Royale format) in a way as there are no Specialist abilities - its all gun play, equipment and perks.

I'm not sure that the maps are that much smaller than previous 'boots on the ground' CoD titles, but the movement feels quicker so you can get around the maps faster.  Firing Range, for example, feels smaller than it did on Black Ops 2.

I've been playing quite a bit of MWR prior to this and the maps on the whole are definately smaller. I mean it's 5 vs 5 too and it still feels hectic and crowded. Even thinking back to previous games the maps still feel smaller, I mean you'd have the odd one or 2 large-ish maps on previous games and one or two small ones and then the rest medium sized, all of these feel medium-ish sized.

I like it but glad there's a BR mode as regular MP doesn't cure that tactical itch

Gonna have to give the BR a try, as there is pretty much zero tactics in the MP. It is a game of fastest trigger first and is all a bit chaotic. Not really ideal for the slowing older gamer like myself.

Blackout is in a good place right now.

All the missions to unlock skins are in I think, they've removed 9-bangs which were frankly broken, and the damage balancing seems better than it was a few weeks ago. Think they've gone too far increasing the Vapr's recoil, its probably the worst AR now. Rampart/rocket launcher is my favoured loadout in the first half of a match unless I'm playing quads, then replace the rocket launcher with a sniper rifle for the second half or a quad match.

People just don't use the quad bikes enough in quads for the rocket launcher. Its pretty easy to survive a rocket attack in a truck or a helicopter, since it takes two rockets to destroy the vehicle, and the time between hits is more than long enough to ditch the vehicle. May be workable if you have two people launching at the same time, but me and my team don't often find two launchers in the same match, especially at the stage where people are driving about.
