How is Rhys Williams a real unit? :D

He is 6 foot 5.

He is 6 foot 5.

Thanks

Look at this absolute unit

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

What sort of height is he? Presume he's still got some growing to do - think Klopp likes his 6 to have a decent physical presence, which both Fabinho and Henderson have. Might be his future is as more of an 8 than a 6 though.
I doubt many natural centre backs progressed from CB all the way to an 8. That he looks as good as he does at 6 as a natural CB growing up, which he basically stated in an interview says a lot about his ability. He's 6'1, so CB is not an option at this club, but DM is. Also he'd do much better to develop primarily as a 6 than an 8, because the competition is going to be much less over the next few years IMO. It's also harder to find elite 6's than 8's.

Another son of a former pro footballer in the academy, I think that makes four? He looks tidy and aggressive and well beyond at 17-year-old.

His dad and Thiago's dad were team mates once upon a time.

It really wouldnt surprise me if its a bit Trent-esque where he gets a few minutes and we decide he's too good not to be involved with the first team

with keita, curtis and ox out. think he could fill in a squad role somehow. guess if the coaches trust him enough, he might be a rather valuable asset as the 5 subs rule might benefit him. 20-30 minutes of game time here and there just might accelerated his development.

Will be interesting to see if he can get any game time this season. I certainly wouldn't bank on him doing so in the Prem or Europe but would fancy him to get some minutes in the League Cup/FA Cup. Problem with that is I think we only have one domestic cup game before the World Cup. When we had a couple of dead rubbers in the Champions League group last season though we did make changes, the likes of Morton came in and done well, it'd be nice if we get that luxury to rotate again. Would be surprised if he had any involvement in league fixtures for a while but if there is games we're cruising in then who knows? Would be nice to see anyway as he impressed in pre season.

Thought he was just ill and missed the Strasbourg friendly because of this.

We'll probably find out tomorrow in the pre match press conference. I'd be surprised if he's still out.

It'll take a lot of injuries for him to make the bench in the league though.

It’s not too far fetched to think if Jones can make the subs bench, that by extension Bajcetic can also do it. He looks like he can do a similar job to Curtis in our setup, with the added bonus that he can also play in defense.

Some said the same about Trent, though. Then he was given his first top flight start at Old Trafford and played the whole game without fuss.

I think he will be the 6 in the league cup/Fa cup. Fabio/Elliott/Curtis Should allow Henderson to be the 6 to help rest Fabinho a little more

It obviously wasn't just us that he impressed during pre-season.  Had the Fulham game played out a bit differently - we were a few goals up and looking comfortable - we might have seen him make his debut.  We did only use four subs.

Made slightly easier by the scoreline, but he looked like he’d been playing at the top level for years, after coming on. So much composure on the ball, he’s going to be a special one.

Loved that passage where they had the ball on our right side, just outside the box, where he physically battled to get between the ball and the Bournemouth player who was favourite for it. Then won a free kick. Formerly known as the Hamann special.

Very promising indeed, and didn't look a young player in his approach/play/deicions/tussles - hope we can earn the right to continue playing him

He is not yet 18 but has the composure and coolness of a 25-26 year old. Yes - it helps to come in when your team is 7-0 ahead. But he is in the first team squad on merit. Have been watching him played for U18 and U23 both as centre back and as the holding midfielder - almost always came away impressed by the lad

We have a gem in our hands. If he keeps on progressing, he will play in this team on a regular basis

In the league? He’s basically replaced Morton and Morton got a league start last year. Given our midfield options aren’t going to be more robust this year, after another year in the legs and injury accumulation, I hope we recognised the reality that we may well need him to start games this year.
