I only really remember the last couple of seasons he had for us, the pictures of him I had on my wall and football cards and stickers. I wish I'd seen more of him play. His goal against Bayern in the '81 European Cup semi sticks in my mind. An iconic player for us who I'm sure will be fondly remembered for many years to come. I'm glad he's at peace now after such an awful illness. RIP Ray.

Fact. Paisley didn’t switch Ray to left half until 1976

I didn't realise it was that late. But I do remember him starting up front in his first season. He got the winner away at table-toppers (!) Carlisle United a few weeks into his Liverpool career - with an orange ball I seem to remember.

His goal at Wolves which pretty much clinched the title for us in 1976 is one that sticks in the memory. We took over the stadium that night & I was one of thousands who were locked outside, but I managed to get in a couple of minutes before Ray scored that goal.

Fantastic player.

The 1981 European Cup semi against Bayern Munich sticks in my mind about Ray. Captained the side while more senior players were in attendance. Scored the crucial goal which took us through to the final.
22nd April 1981 was my 19th birthday.

When I grew up, everyone went for Kenny as their hero, for me it was always Ray, there was just something about that bold white number 5, on a red shirt, carried by a very upright, yet wonderfully balanced joy of a player - that was Ray Kennedy.
When people pick their best Liverpool eleven, everyone puts Barnes on the left, I always have Ray.

Bob Paisley tells a story about Ray being the player most managers tried to sign from him, even other mangers recognised his brilliance and that was what he was - a dependable brilliant genius with a touch like silk and a shot like dynamite. He was poetry in motion.

In latter years The Ray of Hope charity was a fitting an wonderful gesture for this club legend and I am more than convinced, there will be Arsenal fans tonight as broken hearted as this Ray Kennedy, fan is.

Goodnight and god bless Ray Kennedy, my hero. X

That’s a lovely tribute Chops.

Such a classy player. Marvellous left foot and always, always looked like he had loads of time on the ball.

My favourite memory is the two he got at Old Trafford on Boxing Day ‘78. For that, for everything else you did for us, and for being a genuinely good human being, Rest in Peace.

RIP Ray. Could you imagine what he'd go for now? An understated gem of a footballer. We've lost too many lately.

I just noticed that before our game on Thursday on BT Sport1 there’s a 45 min programme on Ray. Starts at 6pm GMT
