Not great news but if he's expected to be out for up to 6 weeks, you feel they hope he could be back training around Christmas time? He's a tough lad is Joe and has been through much worse, he'll dust himself down and he'll be right as rain.

Big BIG chance for Lovren & Matip to step up.

Big onus on Lovren and Matip staying fit now, which I’m not confident on.

That's shit. Joe was in unreal form. Time for Lovren to step up to the plate again, we know he can. Just pray he stays fit because personally I'm nae arsed about seeing Matip against the likes of City.

6 weeks, disappointing but definitely feels like it would have been longer if ligaments were involved.

Sure he’ll be back as good as ever soon enough. In the mean time complete faith in Lovren & Matip to help keep us winning so when Joe returns we’re still challenging.

This is nearly as good an outcome as we could have got, based on what we saw last night. Ligament injuries have a habit of re-occuring so it being a break, whilst hopefully only requiring the same time out as a ligament injury, to me is a positive. Also 6 weeks is at the bottom of what I expected which was 2 months.

The timing is bad considering the sheer volume of games he will miss at this time of year, but the final positive is that he will hopefully be well rested for the final third of the season.

Compared to the AOC situation where I had similar optimism but it turned into a disaster, it's hard to complain IMO.

6 weeks is and a nice, comfortably healing fracture is ten times better than ligaments for me. I did my ankle back in February and I'd rather I'd broken it than badly sprained it, not been right since. Physio said "bet you wish you'd have broken it".  ;D

Better than I expected, which is nice, but still a big loss during a busy and crucial (aren't they all) period of the season.

I'm comfortable with our CB cover, but have slight concerns what we do at RB if we want to rest Trent. Don't really want him accumulating too many minutes as a result of Gomez being out. Chance for Clyne? Guess we see how Klopp rates him vs options of giving Fabinho/Milner/Camacho time there.

What's the situation with Lovren currently? Seems to completely drop from the match day squad every 2-3 weeks now, he's going to be very important for the next 6 weeks

Was ill the week before but had a clash of heads in training leading up to this game. Nothing major

This is a huge chance for Clyne now as well if he can keep healthy

Thankfully he'll be back with plenty of football still to be played. I'm still baffled why so many media outlets are claiming he injured himself sliding into to advertising hoarding though.

Anyway, we'll be fine. Our CB paring at home against Man City in the CL last season was Lovren and Van Dijk with Karius in goal. Our CB paring at home against Roma in the CL last season was Lovren and Van Dijk with Karius in goal.

Big loss as he's been nothing less than fantastic this season, and at times even better than VVD. Yes I said that, and I meant it.

Fortunately it's an area we have good cover in now and it's only 6 weeks, albeit at a bad time of year. Get well soon Joe. Take your chance Dejan/Nathaniel/Joel.
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

Dunno I feel about this, could've been much worse, a fracture is better than ligament tears but 6 weeks is a lot of football without him over a busy period.

Feel bad for the lad. He was in the form of his life.

Not only big for Lovern and Matip to set up but also the likes of Clyne, Trent (in those games were Gomez was being picked), and possibly seeing Fabinho at right back too?

The fibula is a non-weight bearing bone so that's why it's 6 weeks. The tibia would have been longer but essentially as soon as it healed Joe should be good to go.

Had a feeling something might be broken, but also thought it would be worse. 6 weeks is bad, and for a unnecessarily hard tackle in my view, but not as bad as it could have been. Awful timing as well, but cant wait to have him back! He has made it through some rough times, so he will probably be relieved its not a very long lay off.

Get well soon Joe!

Gutted.

c*nt of Sean Dyche to call that a fantastic tackle after it has fractured a player's leg. I wished someone would break his best player and then stick a nice post it on him written "fantastic tackle".

Burnley still have to come play Liverpool in Anfield, expect a tough reception for that c*nt Dyche and more c*nt Mee.

Hope when he gets back we knock on the head the idea of him as a RB. He has been outstanding as a CB and he needs to play and learn alongside VVD. Id rather put Fab or even Milner/Hendo in at RB if need be (or hell maybe trust Clyne to be able to do a job against the lesser teams of the league) and just let Gomez develop into a top quality CB and just have a game off if we want to give Lovren time.

He’s played quite a bit at full back. We are moulding a number of youth wingers as full backs, such as Lewis and Laroucci.  It’s a wingers position for us
