57 seasons in the top 8 in a row
« on: May 11, 2019, 12:19:18 pm »
As we prepare for the showdown just remember this, we have by far the longest streak of consecutive finishes in the top 8 of any English club.

1960's

8-1-7-1-5-3-2

1970's

5-5-3-1-2-2-1-1-2-1

1980's

1-5-1-1-1-2-1-2-1-2

1990's

1-2-6-6-8-4-3-4-3-7

2000's

4-3-2-5-4-5-3-3-4-2

2010's

7-6-8-7-2-6-8-4-4-either 1 or 2.

So, always remember that no matter what people say we're the permanent fixture and haven't had a single season with a losing winning record ever since Shanks took us back to the top flight in 1962. This kind of consistency in the big leagues is only bettered by Real Madrid and Barcelona.

In the meantime, Manchester United got relegated once, Arsenal finished in the bottom half several times, Manchester City went into current-day League One and Everton finished the league with a net losing record 20 times.

We're Liverpool and we have 94 points. We've bottled nothing whatsoever this season.

Thanks for the show  :wave

That reads to me like the definition of footballing classiness.

Ah, the mythical Top 8.   :)
David Platt has a face like a Michael Myers mask being stretched over a dinosaur egg.

I suppose it is a pretty impressive stat based on the sheer length of time.

Ah, the mythical Top 8.   :)

How about this then? The club with the by far longest top-half streak and an average finish of 3.53 between 1963 and 2018 that will be either 3.49 or 3.51 by tomorrow? Sort of impressive isn't it?  ;)

What actually jumps out at me most is that this decade has been really rubbish compared to the previous five.  If you take the ‘top X’ as being in practical terms a glass floor, which I don’t necessarily though on the stats maybe I should, then we’ve been bumping along at the bottom for most of it.  Thank goodness for 2014 and Klopp.

My thoughts too. I'm probably in the minority, but I cringed at this stat. If anything it draws attention to our awful finishes for most of this decade and how after 20 years of pure domination, our finishes were pretty average. From 1991 onwards, it's averaging around 7-10 years between top two finishes.

Dont want to come across too spoilt footballing wise, but we should not be finishing 8th.

We have had far too many of 6-8th finishes which is why having such a great side regardless of finishing first or second should not be scoffed at. I am taking this season again (and any season we get 85 points or above) with both hands.
