Hopefully Channel 4 will take it - get that Mr Richardson back... put a spin on that old familiar music, pay him a shit load to sit around cafes reading the papers, occasionally interviewing & pranking around with the players, and generally being the best footy presenter on the planet once more...

No? So that'll be more repeats of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, or Food: Unwrapped then...

Shame that. I like watching La Liga and it was good that Sky had the rights to so many games per week. Another thing they ended up losing  :wanker

What’s that saying about grass and greener? Took it off sky and now they’re struggling to give it away.

I think this increasing trend of selling packages to online platforms, while sounding great on paper in terms of profits, is going to have a hugely negative impact for some of these leagues. I think a huge core group of fans do not want to be paying additional sums for these leagues and may not have the type of internet access required.  And this is a global issue. For example, the Canadian rights to the PL for this season were sold off to DAZN, who last year also secured the rights to the CL, EL, La Liga and Serie A. Prior to DAZN getting involved, you could watch the PL, the CL and EL with a basic cable/satellite package. Now you need to subscribe to DAZN. So you are turning away casual and new fans, who aren't willing to commit to buy an extra package. There's also the effect it has on bars and restaurants who would like to show these games.

I know in the Canada, Setanta came in a few years ago and created a  premium channel for the PL that barely lasted a year before it had to be eventually phased out by the larger Canadian media conglomerates with content eventually being ported over via the creation of multiple channels under the TSN and Sportsnet platforms, which allowed for all PL games to be shown live. Ligue 1 was another league that was available on basic cable on the French channels for years. Then the rights to it were bought out by BEIN, where it ended up being an afterthought. BEIN, who have the Canadian rights to La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Turkish league, ironically now have their stuff on DAZN.

To go back to La Liga, it no longer has the draw of Ronaldo vs. Messi. That was likely a huge selling point. You do have two (increasingly dysfunctional) giants in Real Madrid and Barcelona. But it is going to need to be thinking about how it is branded once the likes of Messi goes.

One of them would have to play on the right or centrally behind the striker.  The latest rumors on the twatter make it seem like Neymar is destined to go back to Barcelona anyway with Coutinho going the other direction.  We'll see how they line up with Messi, Griezmann, Neymar, and Suarez.

Should have put money on this

BBC

Real have put forward a deal that includes money as well as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.

PSG asked for Vinicius Junior but Real did not put his name in the frame.

Neither bid has been accepted, but it is thought PSG would prefer to sell to Real.

Another La Liga season, another Barca title?  de Jong should solve a ton of their issues and Griezemann should in theory lighten the load on Suarez's aging legs.  Funny enough if the Coutinho bridges aren't burnt for all time then a midfield 3 of Busquets, de Jong and Coutinho would actually be pretty fucking good and in theory make it so Messi doesn't need to come so deep.  Sounds like it won't ever happen though.

WTF are R. Madrid doing?  If nothing changes I'd guess Zidane leaves as soon as they are out of the CL.  That midfield looks atrocious as Kroos can no longer move.

You're a bad, bad, bad man ;D

I am sure that opposition players will not be mocking Barcelona when they get a corner against them at all... using tactical prowess such as pointing in a random different direction and shouting 'spider!' - then quickly taking the corner and catching them out. No, sir. Not at all...  :wave

Athletic Bilbao XI: Unai Simón; Capa, Yeray, Núñez, Berchiche; Unai López, Dani García; De Marcos, Raúl García, Muniain; Williams.
Subs: Herrerin, Benat, Larrazabal, Aduriz, Balenziaga, Vivian, Sancet.

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Piqué, Lenglet, Jordi Alba; Sergi Roberto, de Jong, Aleñá; Dembélé, Suárez, Griezmann.
Subs: Rakitic, Sergio, Rafinha, Umtiti, Junior, Iñaki Peña, Pérez.

Game is live on ITV 4 in the UK - 8pm kick off.
