What was all that about? Eighties terrace fashion - half rangers and half celtic hats. It wasnt even as if we played them - at least that explains the Milan, Juve and Chelsea scarves that are common these days.

 ???
The people of Liverpool are workers. This is not a rich town where everyone lives a comfortable life. They work hard for themselves, and this is what we at Liverpool like to do. This is the attitude we must all have.

A very popular chant at the time was "Rangers, Celtic, Rangers, Celtic" sung by those who "supported" one or the other. Could never really work out the rationale beind it. I believe Everton were the Catholic side originally, but not sure how it all began at that time.

I remember when I first started going the game, I thought the 'Rangers Celtic' shout was one of ours songs. I used to sing both 'Rangers' and 'Celtic'...

Everton were formed as part of St Domingo's, which sounds pretty catholic to me. Also Liverpool is quite close to Netherfield Road which until recently was a really staunch loyalist/orange area.

the orange/catholic thing between liverpool and everton has never happened , both clubs have never had religion involved  in them in the same way the glasgow clubs have , if it was the case everton would be orange because the everton area has always been associated with the orange lodge , and anfield had a big irish catholic area  , but the clubs are not involved .

I was well pleased when the 'half n half' bobble hats came out in the 80s. Complimented perfectly the 70s silk scarf tied around my wrist.

I agree that religion has never been a major factor but you are not quite right in your geography. Scotland Road was the Irish catholic area of Liverpool, but the top of the hill around Netherfield Road was a real Orange area and it is this area that is closest to Liverpool.

like alderige 8 said, catholic team proddie team has never existed between LFC and EFC the reason for their founding and consequently ours were for altogether different reasons.

the fact that anfield is or isn't in / near to any prodestant or catholic area has got nothing to do with it, remember anfield was efc's ground first.

the chant was i always thought more of a laugh as one or other of the teams was always the second favourite team for alot of supporters from liverpool, the city having both a large irish and scottish imigrant population.

Is having Rangers or Celtic as a second team as bad as an Oxford fan having Liverpool FC as a second team.
