AWOL.

That the one where he's in the Foreign Legion and has to go do underground fighting? Admittedly the underground fighting bit could describe pretty much any of his oeuvre. Class film though.

If I pick a black and white non-English film with a female lead, does that mean I've covered all the bases or do they need to be separate films?

Looks like this one's going to be more conventional than the bands draft. In the meantime, I'm waiting for someone to pick Persepolis and cover every pre-condition simultaneously.

I think that's always going to happen. I'm not sure what it is, but somehow music can be totally off the wall and yet appeal to the masses still. I'm not sure the same can be said of film.

What constitutes a female lead? I don't think going by billing is helpful, as often that's simply the most well known actor or just the man! I can think of one in particular where the guy is top billed, but the woman narrates the film and is really an equal lead if not greater.

Either top billing and/or the movie centre's around her and her actions.  Even ensemble movies have the "main" guy or girl.

Like I say, top billing is a load of shite in a male dominated/star obsessed film industry.

But then again I can't think of strong female lead movies where the male clearly becomes the focus of the movie.

If you pick a black & white film, which is non English speaking and it has a female lead are you killing three birds with one stone?
