I am one of those entitled yuppies that have trouble lauding individuals who have played for Liverpool but didn't manage to win anything. Basically, I have no time for good players that quit this club without winning a medal of note (Suarez, Coutinho, Mascherano, Torres). It's a grim way of viewing life, I guess.

I am just utterly delighted and relieved that Salah will now always be remembered on a completely different level to any of the aforementioned. After last year's heartbreak in Kiev, Salah lifting the European Cup in Madrid was just indelibly heartwarming. The most fascinating part about sport has always been vicariously taking pleasure from seeing athletes that triumph after adversity. It's human nature to be attracted to that hopeful narrative.

I entirely agree, just as the satisfactory narrative is Coutinho failing to profit from his cowardly and disloyal behaviour.

Salah has just been named in joint 98th place on Forbes top 100 list for biggest earners in sport for 2018-19.

This includes endorsements as well as wages, but still confirms that Salah is amongst the top earners in football, albeit there are plenty with higher wages ahead of him, including the top 3 who are all footballers.

I ask this question too, especially now that we are arguably a bigger club (and attraction) to serious footballers than Real and Barca.
At the very least we are 'equal' to them in terms of status and attraction at this present moment in time imo.

Granted, I can understand why South American players may pine for Spain............but everyone else?

Call me a hypocrite but I wouldn't mind playing in sunny Spain for lots of dough  ;D
But I'm not a pro footballer.

I think choosing a team like ours or a team like Real or worse, PSG is a true test of what are a young footballer's priorities. If he really wants to be the very best he can be, the choice for liverpool is obvious. But if he wants to earn as much money as he can get, have a celebrity lifestyle, enjoy life now while earning glory for the least amount of hard work and struggle because he would be playing for a team that has so many stars that winning domestic honours is a cinch, then by all means go to a so-called "super" club - you are not the kind of player we want anyway.

Much bigger systemic and random factors beyond the control of an individual are in play when it comes to winning trophies.

Of course, and I made it clear that I view that attitude as being entitled as fuck. But I am afraid I can't help it, most of my good memories related to football are about Liverpool winning trophies. Those players walked out on Liverpool without being determined to prove themselves. Yes, they owe us nothing, but neither should they expect to be lauded in return. It's pure luck, I know, but the difference is that I remember someone like Smicer or Hamann with more fondness than folks like Suarez or Coutinho.

More crap from the mirror today about Mo revaluating his situation next summer By John Richardson. The fact that the club and the Salah camp have chosen to ignore these agenda-driven rumours is probably winding up some journalists. They will continue to publish these outrageous stories till they get some sort of response. Fans should also learn not to bite.
Treat these rumours with the contempt that they deserve.
