I am one of those entitled yuppies that have trouble lauding individuals who have played for Liverpool but didn't manage to win anything. Basically, I have no time for good players that quit this club without winning a medal of note (Suarez, Coutinho, Mascherano, Torres). It's a grim way of viewing life, I guess.
I am just utterly delighted and relieved that Salah will now always be remembered on a completely different level to any of the aforementioned. After last year's heartbreak in Kiev, Salah lifting the European Cup in Madrid was just indelibly heartwarming. The most fascinating part about sport has always been vicariously taking pleasure from seeing athletes that triumph after adversity. It's human nature to be attracted to that hopeful narrative.
