As long as he is just a squad player then all good, seems a bit odd that Fenway are not sticking to their policy but when you look at the Van Persie signing for this season, (obviously Toure isn't gonna have same impact) then maybe they have relaxed that idea somewhat. We need a balance of youth and experience imo
This policy of theirs will not be set in stone. They won't just sign young, talented players/rejects. As others have said countless of times, including the owners themselves- it comes down to "value for money". There is obviously the manager's need for a specific signing as well as the team's need also: In this case, a replacement for Jamie and clearly someone who is to make way for a lucky youngster when he leaves.

Gut feeling is he has been signed as a 1st team player to play along side Agger.

But I only judge that when we start playing again.

If he is 1st choice CB (along with Agger) come August 17th then I don't think the RAWK servers will be able to cope

I suspect his salary will be based at least in part on appearances.

It would be a practical solution to all parties. Looking forward to seeing him in a red shirt, still a good defender with plenty of experience and as others have said, he will provide a good stop-gap while Wisdom and Kelly develop.

Welcome to LFC Kolo Toure! He'll be a good experienced option at CB for us the next few seasons. All in all, it's a shrewd signing and a good start to our summer business.

Between Toure, Agger and Papadopulus which ever two of them are on form will play. If Carra at 35 can provide decent enough competition for both Skrtel and Coates then Toure at 32 can definitely do the same for Papadopulus and Agger.

As much as I like to agree with you, this remains to be seen. Carra had a devotion to the team, which gave him an edge. Kolo is a very good player, but I just hope that this move is not his retirement plan...

No, saw him in a few games when he was brought into the Man City side this season and he looked like he could still do a very good at the highest level, particularly when they played Chelsea.

Welcome Kolo !

Decent signing IMO. With Carra retiring, we needed an experienced back-up CB and we get one with a lot of experience, on decent wages if the rumour is correct and who seems quick and comfortable with the ball enough to play in Rodgers' system.

I also like the fact that we've wrapped it up very quickly. Lessons learnt from last summer ?

Besides the experience and winning mentality, which has previously been mentioned, I think he gives us some great options in terms of changing our formation if we choose.

Brendan has flirted with the idea of playing a 352 formation this season and I believe Mancini used this system quite regularly at City. He might be able to help our other defenders make this transition.

A bit stale at City, so expecting a bit rusty on his first games. But on the flip side, not playing much means plenty of time to rest, thus have more mileage on him to perform later on. Good signing, and I don't mind he'd be the first team CB. He's only 32, FFS.

Why come to LFC for a two year contract at 32 as a retirement plan when you can go to Russia, China, Turkey or UAE and make double what you'd get here for  and no doubt the extra income will make his wife a bit less pissed off. He's a professional, if he'd had that sort of attitude then he wouldn't have won all he has in his career.

Quick question, do you think if Toure was in Arsenal or Spurs the last two years he would have played alot more games in that period?

Decent piece of business. I guess the hope is we don't ever see him yes?
Yip. Good piece of business, but I wouldn't want to see him - other than closing out games for some minutes or getting some cup minutes.

Obviously, if we see him starting against say- Swansea away, something has gone balls up in defense again.

Could turn out to be a brilliant signing. The key point for me is the fact he's coming here motivated to play football. He aint on the mammoth contract he could have got elsewhere and he hasnt cost a penny to buy. Adds experience that we would severely lack next year with Carra gone.

Brendan, you are certainly earning your stripes in the transfer market. Well played.
