José Manuel "Pepe" Reina Páez
« on: March 16, 2015, 12:44:15 am »
Surprised he doesn't already have his own thread.

FA Cup: 2005–06
League Cup: 2011–12
FA Community Shield: 2006
UEFA Super Cup: 2005

Golden Glove winner: 2006, 2007, 2008
Liverpool FC Player of the Season: 2010

Two more achievements this week for the big man after he made his league debut for Bayern.
  • He became Munich's first non-German goalkeeper in the league since 1988
  • Became the first goalkeeper to play in all four of Europe’s top leagues

Congrats Pepe. Best goalkeeper I've seen at the club and a top guy off the field too.
Looking forward to seeing him back at Anfield this month  :)
"A football club isn't just made up of players, coaches and directors. More than anything else it's the supporters who make a club, and that perhaps is the ingredient which best distinguishes Liverpool Football Club from every other team. The supporters." - Luis Javier García Sanz

Thanks Kenny, for making us believe again. YNWA

He made his Bundesliga debut on saturday in Bayerns 4-0 win against Bremen.

He was a great keeper for us and I'm looking forward to see him playing at Anfield again  ;)

It's weird to think he's only 32, absolutely no age for a goalkeeper yet he appears to have been on the decline for years now,

6-7 years ago he was arguably in the top 3 in Europe,

I know he's at Bayern but he's a 100% back-up to a much better and younger keeper, strange

He might not be there next season, strong rumours doing the rounds about a move to Napoli.

It doesn't even have to be Napoli, he just needs to go back to being the no.1 for a solid club, far too good a goalie to be pissing the best years of his career away. Still has the physical qualities to recapture his best form, no major injuries. It's down to him whether he still has that desire.

Disappointed with his decision to join Bayern and sit on the bench for a whole year, he's just 32. Still one of my favs tho.

Deal was set out months ago.

Clearly Pepe has found the right place for himself, just a shame that Rafa's gone and left!

Captained Napoli for the first time tonight when Hamsik was subbed off, already one of the leaders of the dressing room from his first stint. Hope he finds a second run of top form here after his issues with us and the wasted year at Bayern.

We really do miss him IMO. Excellent with his feet and while his shot stopping regressed in his final years, the overall benefit to our play in general would have offset that. We are crying out for a keeper that can actually play with his feet right now.

no 1, has captained the side, is one of the main guys in the dressing room. Looks sharp in goal, slimmer and more agile than during his last 2 seasons here, besides his quality with the ball and command of the box. Reminds me of the 06 version, when he first joined. Napoli's signings of Hysaj at right back and Allan in midfield has helped, as well as their improved defensive structure, but Pepe has played his part well when called upon, in a position that practically wrecked their previous season due to insufficient quality.

Probably shouldn't have left, but when it came to Brendan vs Pepe he was never gonna win that battle. The problem is who replaced him.

Vaguely watched the match tonight, and it seems Reina still has the same problems he developed in his last year or 2 at us. Early on he got tackled and lost the ball outside his own area, and the goal they conceded was at his near post. Will always remember his good years fondly, and his passion for the club, but really taking emotion out of it, we should be looking for better

He's one of my favourite players ever but he's right, we should be looking for better. We need to be looking at a young, potentially world class keeper to build around. I'd fucking love him back as 2nd choice, player coach, whatever because his attitude is phenomenal and he obviously still loves the place, but won't happen for a while as long as he's still able to perform in a decent league.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Reina gets his name chanted by the San Paolo (usually reserved for the goalscorer after scoring), led by the announcer Bellini, at the end of the game v Inter, after making that match winning save. And cos he's you know, Pepe Reina!  ;D

http://www.calcionapoli24.it/zoom/video-daniele-bellini-e-il-tributo-speciale-a-reina-san-paolo-n239673.html

Probably the best day he's had for a long time in his career. Winning whatever at Bayern as a bench warmer, pah. Nothing's won here yet, but these are the moments, hopefully we have similar with Klopp.

I can totally get why we did it at the time, he was out of shape and horribly out of form. The thing is since his return to Napoli he is in the best shape for about 8 years, that daft thing we was not agree to a buy back clause.
