Poch to Madrid.

The first thing that came into my head when I heard the news.

Still not getting why they would want him. Unless there just isn't any manager with better pedigree available I guess!

He's got his giant new contract at Spurs anway, making him one of the best paid managers around. Reckon he'll be happy for another year or two before he starts whinging again  ;D

Yeah but to have the clause valid from day one and not a season or two down the line so he has some sort of insurance would be ridiculously myopic, knowing Zidane was one loss away from losing his job (and then quit anyway).

I suppose if the release clause is significant maybe he won't care, but it seems like Marca stirring again.

Clauses and all this sort of talk is absolutely pointless. If Real want him badly enough he'll be managing them next season, it's that simple. His contract is chicken feed, they could buy it out dozens of times over without even blinking.

Even if it's a 5 year contract at 7m a year that's only 35m. For them that's loose change.

Would be a great way of Poch getting some revenge on Barca. But didn't he just sign a new 5 year contract like last week?

Isn't Delaney a bit of a bullshit merchant though? Can definitely imagine Real being interested in Poch mind, he's a bloody good manager. Bet he'd cost them an arm and a leg though, unless that rumour about a release clause in his new contract has some sort of validity. Guess Real don't really care about money though.

It's an interesting article certainly, but fraught with intrigue. Especially where he says there is an "informal agreement between the manager and club."  Those sort of situations can tear clubs apart especially if both parties have a different understanding of what the agreement and set of circumstances of leaving are. If they fall out it could be a disaster for Spur's prospects.

Arsenal bedding in a new manager.

Agreement with Levy to maximise his profits as a gesture of good will, with a gentleman's agreement not to fuck him over if Real come calling? Contracts are not worth the paper they are printed on - well, not as a declaration of loyalty anyway. We had Coutinho tied up tightly to a fresh contract and then his dream club came calling. If Real want him - he is gone, forget the logic.

I think the interesting part Tommy is where is where it is claimed that the club and Poch have an informal agreement about him being RM's manager. I don't think there was much expectation of Zidane leaving when he did, this has happened very suddenly. I suppose it's up to Poch to dismiss it out of hand because if he doesn't the Spanish media, will toy with your club the way they have with us recently.

Cheers. Have seen elsewhere that Ben Pearce, another Spurs-related journalist say he doesn't think there's a release clause or a verbal agreement but you never know. Pochettino doesn't strike me as the type to jump ship a few days after signing a new contract, but it certainly makes you wonder.

Normally I would agree about Poch being loyal, but as I said above it will be up to him to dismiss this story quickly otherwise we both know the pressure the Spanish can bring in these situations. There are still a number of managers available too, it's a really interesting situation.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Pochettino might not want the job at this point of his career. In the same way that he ruled out the Argentina job a while back.

Lets face it, chances are the job will be up for grabs again in another year or two anyway!
