At the risk of taking the thread back to Jimmy Hill....wasn't he the bloke responsible for changing it from two points for a win up to three?

I watched the interview and didn't realise at the time that he didn't get on with Roy Evans. I remember reading a newspaper article with him prior to the Charity Shield against Arsenal in 2002 and he said he considered himself more a Liverpool fan than he did an Arsenal one.

Jimmy Hill slagged him off cause "he didnt look like a Liverpool player", i think thats what the reference was to after the '92 cup final
Diego Maradona: "The English club proved that miracles really do exist. I've now made Liverpool my English team. They showed that football is the most beautiful sport of all. You knew they could defend but the team showed they could play too and wrote a page in the history books. The match will last forever. "

his debut was against Spurs at Whiteheart lane in 1991, Spurs fans booed hiom to death, i didnt like that, he was one of ours now. His goal in the 1992 cup final helped repay the damage he did in '89.
Jimmy Hill was wrong, I thought he was a 'Liverpool player' and yes we could have won the league in '97 if we had played him more.

Doesnt sisoko look a bit like him?
Was at the '92 final and he scored a screamer. Always thought he was severely underrated.

Yeah - was a brilliant goal. Picked up a bad achilles injury quite early on in his career with us didn't he? Maybe aginst Bolton in that cup defeat?

When did he leave us and where did he go to? Gone completely blank. I think I can remember him playing and scoring v Sheff Wednesday towards the start of the 97/98 season but think he must have left not long after?

I think that's probably the most moronic argument that I've ever seen on this site and believe me, there's a fucking lot of competition for that particular title.

Used to love watching him play - like many good players they make the difficult things look incredibly simple. He had a great eye for a probing pass, knew when to get forward and break the lines himself - and had 'sixth-sense' timing in doing so. Also knew when to hold and defend, when to get around the pitch, hustle and force a mistake - or intercept a pass.

Still reckon all these years later we'd have played a lot better and likely won in the 1996 Cup Final - instead of Roy inexplicably playing Redknapp instead of him. (I should likely let that one go ;)).

The only player to win a trophy at Wembley with 2 different clubs in the same season.

Disclaimers - I've no idea when I first read this. I've no idea if it's still true (or ever was). The Charity Shield isn't a trophy and was shared in 1991 anyway.

I think I've heard that too - or something like it - in a pub quiz. Was a little taken aback that drawn matches / shared trophies thing back then... now count as wins, too.

Still, at least it gets people talking about a decent / good player for us - without mentioning 'that goal' ;) He was a far better player than 'just' that.

Glad he's involved back with the club - seems a top man too.
