Seems similar in broad terms to a lot of our signings now .. all of which seem to come good…

Early 20s, captain at his former club (leader on the pitch),  Already established himself at international level. Can play in a number of positions ….. Probably his best years coming as he reaches his peak …

He whips a cracking ball in from the clips I've seen. Good clean striker of the ball too.

I wouldn't be shocked if he hits double figures for assists this season. He should get plenty of football with Díaz and Jota still out for a while and with Núñez and Salah getting on the end of his passes.
Pretty sure he was a set piece taker for PSV. He also does it for the netherlands also

pretty much an FSG signing. Sports science geeks with the stats and data and klopp/vvd for the EQ test and good person test. Also taking advantage of clubs that needs some financial help surely puts us in good terms with them as well. I do think that we structure the payments to benefit the selling club as well as keeping our books healthy as FFP is tightly enforced :P

really excited to see him here. seems like a really good lad like most of the signings but just hope he can be a bit of a c*nt like darwin and robbo on the pitch. Think having VVD and Pep surely just tilted things in our direction. and of course looking at other previous signings under klopp that actually become better players.

with this i think that we can see more of the overlapping robbo with the right footed winger playing on the left like mane. he does look a bit off when playing with diaz.

Welcome to Liverpool Cody.

For those (if any) that have seen him play in more than just the world cup. What type of player is he, is there a former player he's similar to?
Not too fast. Not too flashy. Never incredible highly rated as youngster. Bit of an outlier on the wings with his lenght. Clever player with good vision. Works hard and has a great kick.

Doesn't do a lot of things wrong and very good at creating chances, but he can be invisible at times.

Always expected him to be just decent, and a PSV hero since he's an Eindhoven native, nice guy and works hard. But he keeps positively surprising me.

I can see him turned into a midfielder or striker. But I have been thinking that for some time, and it never happened yet.

Apparently Wolves in the cup likeliest for his debut as he has barely trained since the WC.

https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1608206510311542790?s=20

He can’t be that far behind some others. When did VVD come back to training?
I say get him on the bench, it’s not like he’s gone six months without training.

We're all eager to see him but he hasn't been training, hasn't worked with the coaches at all and is still getting settled after a pretty quick move. I can see why we might delay his debut a game as it gives him a week to settle and to assess his fitness, last thing we want to do is throw him in and get another injury.

Besides 17 year old Doak and Carvalho we don’t have any attacking options on the bench. Sometimes quality is strong enough that besides all that he will be our best option off the bench perhaps.

We aren’t talking about starting him and we are missing most other attacking players.

He'll play when he's ready. Each player is different and Klopp and the staff know that. Some players have taken quite a bit of time to get proper minutes and bed in, others have hit the ground running. We will see with Cody but I reckon Klopp will be keen to get him going early given Jota and Diaz aren't close to playing.

Short-term, do we need him? Absolutely.

Long-term... probably not if everyone's fit.

Suggests to me that either he's a summer plan to replace Firmino that's been brought forward.

Without moaning too much... he wasn't a priority. Which might, hopefully, possibly, mean that a midfielder is in the works.

This is a pretty good critical analysis of him for those of us that have watched him a limited amount of times.  Some pro's and cons. It does highlight his lack of explosiveness to separate between himself and his opponent and suggests it could be a big issue playing for a club like Liverpool who come up against settled defences.

I've seen a lot of new players getting a game early on, and then vanishing for a bit while they work with the coaches. Think it does two things, it gives the player a buzz and a feeling of being involved, and the coaches a good idea of what the player is like and what needs work.

Some of those examples are bollocks to be fair. It's piss easy to watch a clip from in the gantry and say that player should have done x or y when things are massively different at pitch level. A few of the examples the 'scout' uses even look to be the right options but are defended well or lost by the player receiving the pass from Gakpo

so true this

at pitch level you don't get the same perspective at all - and things happen so fast and positions are changing all the time

analysis of these events always has the benefit of retrospection, hindsight and being able to view all positioning from an angle impossible for the player on the pitch

yes, they are useful for coaching but should not be used for critique by pundits on motd et all who all are fucking geniuses  :-X

So that's Salah, Nunez, Jota, Diaz, Gakpo, & Bobby as our 6 main strikers (when all fit) for the remainder of the season. I'll be disappointed if we're not scoring 3 or 4 per game from here on in. Our bench will be pretty impressive.

One major thing i would say about him regarding his goals in the WC, is that when he hits the ball he always seems to connect really well with it. IE. When he hits a ball it stays hit.  ;D

Yep. Hits a heavy ball, this lad.

Yep, probably the most interesting thing for the team right now will be his ability to ding one into the corner from outside the box. If he can be a hardworking presser, willing to track back and add a couple of goals like that to break defenses open, I don't really care if he's not particuliarly flashy for all the rest. Goals from distance are a rarity in this squad, we have all the flash, speed and technicians you can shake a stick at, but a lad who can put his laces through it and not put it into row Z would be a welcome change.

Very similar signing to Diaz last January. Similar age and profile. Looked to have outgrown the club and league they were in but both intergral parts of their previous clubs (in Gakpo's case, captain)

Hopefully he can have a similar impact. 6 top class attackers for 3 roles gives us depth when everyone is fit but I wonder whether we see a slight change in role for one or two, maybe dropping into a more attacking 8/10 role for Bobby or maybe even Gakpo himself?

2 sitting with basically 4 attackers and the FBs would blow most teams away

It probably isn't what we're seriously considering but it's not an unrealistic way to go. If nothing changes in terms of the gaps we're leaving (and it didn't seem like ot had against Villa) then why not? We've generally been fine in attack this season but we might has well go the whole way to try and get top 4.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.
