It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

I love Xabi but he's past his best and I don't really see where he'd fit into our current system. He's 34 this week, need to look forwards not back

He has looked good when I have seen him a few times. Great quality and great experience, could easily fit into this side.

I hope we bring him back, the betraying bastard!

He's still running Bayern Munich's midfield who aren't bad.

He'd walk into our side still and could play until he was 40 if he didn't get any serious injuries.

Never had any pace - doesn't need it. Plus the influence a 'man' like Alonso would have on young players would be terrific.

I'd like to see him back. I suppose, it's how he would fit into a Klopp team, but I'm sure he'd be fine.

I'd sooner welcome back Alonso than Gerrard, personally. I still feel he could offer us something

It wont happen, though. Chances are he'll do a year in MLS and call it a day.

Excited to see him a manager/coach in the future though.

36 games for Beyern last year and 13 this year already.

They're not half bad like.

He plays in a team that's able to use him as a centre back they're that dominant, would be totally different here.

The system is King, i'd rather go out and see us buy a CM who fits Klopp's system and can carry us for the next 10 years

Me too, but given Gerrard, Suarez, Carraghet, Reina, Kuyt and others have left us in the past few years it would be useful to have a 2-times CL winning, World Cup and 2-time EURO-winning ex Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich Spanish legend in the side to bring in some leadership and experience and insight. Plus he could retire with us and become a coach.

Quite easy to run a midfield when you have world class all around you though. Makes the job easier I think :P

Probably says more about the quality of our midfield than him but he could still play a role with us and would probably help our midfield a fair amount.

We need to find the next Alonso!

Not sure it does, considering he's still a pretty regular starter for Bayern!

But a Xabi Alonso who is ten years younger would be ideal, obviously. Not sure there is anyone like that around though, players with his outstanding quality don't come along very often.

Yep - including rejecting Real Madrid initially to join us, and then consequently, very sadly, leaving us. Picked a hell of a time to leave Real Madrid as well.

He's 'managed' his career in a superb way.
