Suggestions To Add To The Archive

(1/9) > >>

SP:
This topic is for songs to be added to the archive. Please note this is for songs that actually have been sung at the ground, not for suggestions of what you think should be sung.

Post them below, and those that make the cut will be periodically moved over into the archive proper, as and when resources allow.

Kopite1971:
First off, great to see that song list.  This one may be there but I can't see it, if it isn't it would be good to see it added. It used to be sung whenever West Brom were in town in the 70's and 80's

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Oh I do like to be beside the sea
Oh I do like to walk along the prom prom prom
where the brass bands play "FUCK OFF WEST BROM"

Repeated several times

Robotforaday:
I've only heard this one sung once or twice, but I remember reading on RAWK that it was mentioned in one of the books about fans in Europe (perhaps Here we go gathering cups in May?)

The famous Man United went to Rome to see the Pope
The famous Man United went to Rome to see the Pope
The famous Man United went to Rome to see the Pope
The famous Man United went to Rome to see the Pope

And this is what he said...

I know a team called Liverpool, we've had them here before,
They were here in '77 and again in '84,
You say you're Kings of Europe,
but The Reds have won much more
So this is what I say:

Who the fuck are Man United?
Who the fuck are Man United?
Who the fuck are Man United?
And the reds go marching ON ON ON

Robotforaday:
Think this one still gets an airing in the Albert sometimes? I've only ever heard it called Jimmy Kelly, because it refers to Jimmy's Death in police custody in June 1979.
There's a bit about the death here:
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/obituary-sir-kenneth-oxford-1187338.html

--- Quote ---By the late 1970s the relationship between the police and the denizens of the working-class community of Huyton had plummeted, and a series of violent incidents culminated in the death of Jimmy Kelly in June 1979. Kelly, who had been arrested for being drunk and disorderly, died in police custody, and witnesses came forward claiming that they had seen police assaulting him. Allegations of police violence in K division, which had been ceded to Merseyside from the Lancashire Constabulary in the reorganisation of 1974, followed, and the local MP, Sir Harold Wilson, called for a public inquiry.
--- End quote ---

There's only the one line about Jimmy Kelly though. Most of it is a bit of a nonsense song (I mean that in a good way! Nonsense songs are great!). It's to the tune of the chorus of "Blaydon Races" and accordingly takes the piss out of the Geordies a bit. ("Taught them how to lift the FA Cup" I've always thought is a reference to the 1974 FA Cup Final.)

Oh me lads, we're never off the telly
We hate the fucking coppers cause they murdered Jimmy Kelly
United are the bastards
City are the runners
And when we get to Highburyyyyyyyyy
We'll kick shit out the gunners

Newcastle Brown, it's got to be a winner
25 pints on a saturday night, and 12 for sunday dinner
We taught the Geordies how to sing,
We taught them how to sup
But most of all we taught them hooooooooooooow
To lift the FA cup

Max999:
Don't know what the score is on them being relatively recent songs but:

We've Won It Five Times (Sloop John B)

We've won it five times,
We've won it five times,
In Istanbul,
We've won it five times.

We've won it at Wembley,
We've won it in gay Parée,
In 77 and 84 it was Rome.

We've won it five times,
We've won it five times,
In Istanbul,
We've won it five times.

Also another version of 'Bring on yer'

Bring on your Internazionale,
Bring on your Roma by the score,
Barcelona, Real Madrid,
Who the fuck you trying'a kid,
Because Liverpool are the team that we adore.
