about 7 mins in to 2nd half - Elliott just missed a sitter from 6 yards. think his massive top-knot put him off balance

Clarkson very unlucky there with a great strike from a tight angle.

Stepped it up a bit here now.

We deserved a least a point really having hit the post and the bar. The young reds showed good determination to keep going. Clever finish too, almost looked like a backheel?

Does anyone know what’s happened to Luca Stephenson who we were supposed to have signed from Sunderland a year ago?  Reports that we were about to buy him in early September last year suggested he was 15, which would make him 16 now.  Did we end up buying him?  Is he out injured?  Or were reports of his age incorrect and he is still an U16?

Likely he just has an early september birthday so is an u16

http://paugasolacademy.micfootball.com/partido.php?id=14420&sec=2

He's listed in this squad from april for u16s. Along with the other Sunderland players we had on trial/signed

Great find.  That’s a really interesting list.  I’ve seen some of those names before linked to Wales u15 squads, or Eng U15 squads or camps  (apparently loads go to the camps though) so this is some confirmation that they exist.  Way too early to get excited about any, although Oakley Cannonier is already a name being the ballboy who passed the ball quickly for Trent’s corner v Barca.

Going to be a real struggle this season for the young Reds without Glatzel and Duncans goals yanno.  Already bottom of the league.

Didn't realise that Curtis Jones is only 18. He's been around for a while so I assumed he was a year or two older. In a couple of months it will 2 years training with the first team with 2 pre-seasons under his belt. It seems like the decision to not go out on loan was driven by him but I hope he does go somewhere end of January.

U18s were quite good. Hill has done well but no idea where he ends up long term, maybe right back. Polosh keeper made rwo decent saves when 1v1

Woodburn has 2 assists today. Playing in midfield with Came rton Brannagan, who from what I've read is having a really good season.

Hill has 4 goals in the 4 games he’s played on the right side of midfield, I think he’s much better there than at fullback. Has a real knack for ghosting into the box and has a variety of finishes.

I’ve really enjoyed watching young James Norris so far from this new crop. Seems a supreme little footballer and equally comfortable at LB or on the wing. Fast, tricky with the ball and had a dynamite finish this past weekend. Started for England 17s in their games last international break as well.

There was a two-minute interlude where Liverpool’s three-man attack squared up against United’s three-man defence and basically stalked them back into their own penalty area, like battle-hardened mountain wolves closing in on a flock of geriatric sheep.  Barney Ronay at Anfield @barneyronay Sun 19 Jan 2020 20.36 GMT

U21s (more accurately u18s?) drew 1-1 at Fleetwood. Currently in a penalty shootout to decide the bonus point.

Edit: lost the shoutout 4-3 so Fleetwood take 2 points and Libpool 1.

I suspect this means we struggle to qualify but not sure.

Must be a very young side when most of the team who would be playing are in Milton Keynes. They've drew away at a League One team though.

Harvey Elliott is a special talent. His natural confidence will help him develop too. Our scouting team need a pat on the back for nabbing him.

Agree but he was probably the most obvious talent in the country alogaide Jude Bellingham, like Sancho level obvious I think every scout in the country wouldn't have recommended him, lucky for us, he isn't a Liverpool fan.

The question mark against him is surely his pace/acceleration, and the desire to run in behind. Both Elliott and Jones prefer the ball to feet, and we lost some of our usual penetration (although missing Mane/Salah will affect you no matter who you play). Either we change up the system again when Mane/Salah move on/get old, or Elliott changes position. Would love to see someone with his balance and ball carrying skills in the 8 position, and he's got a sweet left foot and eye for a pass. Does he have the defensive awareness to play deeper?

But, yeah, great natural ability.

I don’t think he’s that slow either. He’s no Mane on the ball (who is?) but he’s certainly no slouch.

He looked damn good tonight for someone who is only 16. In fact if I didn’t know he was 16 and never saw him close up I’d never have guessed. Looking forward to seeing more of him this season, and will not be surprised if he makes his PL debut this season.

He still has a long, long time to develop his game and work into our system. He has been here less than two months.

I know.

But it doesn't take a professional talent scout to see he's not very quick, and prefers the ball in to feet than in behind. Ergo, he will not replicate what Salah or Mane do for us. Hence, it's worth sparing a thought as to how we get the best out of his abilities (which are abundant). No?
