Champions league. 17 and 18 Oct 2017.
« on: October 17, 2017, 03:00:32 pm »
So, today's games:

NK Maribor.                V.   Liverpool

Spartak Moscow.      V.     Sevilla

Feyenoord.                 V.  Shakhtar Donetsk

Manchester City.       V.   Napoli

Monaco.                     V.   Beşiktaş

RB Leipzig.                 V.    FC Porto

Apoel Nicosia.           V.   Borussia Dortmund

Real Madrid.               V.     Tottenham Hotspur

City v Napoli ......  mama mia. Been waiting a while for this, Sarri v Pep. Madrid v Spurs the other obvious standout, wouldn't surprise me if Spurs get a result there.

Nice one.

Spartak 1-2 Sevilla
Feyenoord 1-3 Shaktar
City 4-2 Napoli
Monaco 2-2 Beşiktaş
Leipzig 2-1 Porto
Apoel 0-2 Dortmund
Madrid 3-1 Spurs

Hard to not see goals at the Etihad given those attacks. Dortmund have to get 3 pts tonight to give themselves any chance.
I also think Spurs can give Madrid a game and their defence can stifle Madrid but the home side's experience to tell.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Real v Spurs and Man City v Napoli should be good games, shame they aren't being played tomorrow as the slate of games on Wednesday is shite. I expect Celtic to get battered again.

Spartak 0-2 Sevilla
Feyenoord 1-1 Shaktar
City 2-1 Napoli
Monaco 0-1 Beşiktaş
Leipzig 1-1 Porto
Apoel 0-4 Dortmund
Madrid 1-1 Spurs

City v Napoli will be decent. I think Real v Spurs will be a snoozefest. Spurs will be content with a draw there. Dortmund to nail Apoel

Some mild back and forth in the City - Napoli clash:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/pep-guardiola-manchester-city-napoli-stands-by-praise-mind-games-a8003861.html?

As much as Pep rates them,  I doubt he will do anything except aim to control the ball, as he usually does. He's not that hard to read, but the combination of the player quality at his disposal and how he deploys them....the difficult bit isn't reading them anyway.

Napoli do have the structure to absorb pressure better, if they wish to alter tactics. Napoli obviously have the clash v Inter coming up in a few days, but Sarri is not one to rotate too heavily. Napoli can afford to make a change or two in centre midfield, where they have the best depth imo, without sacrificing the overall level.

Aren't Napoli likely to rest players for the league again? They've talked down their chances of getting a result tonight. I think Madrid v Spurs is the tie to watch. Might be a night for recording our game to watch in detail later and having the goals show on live.

I will watch it, just not necessarily live. Not something I ever really do, but there's a lot of good games on tonight and I'm seeing a couple of mates who don't support Liverpool. So chances are I won't be in control of the remote for the full 90!

City: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling, Sane, Jesus.

Napoli: Reina, Hysaj, Albiol, Koulibaly, Ghoulam, Zielinski, Diawara, Hamsik, Callejon, Mertens, Insigne.

What little rotation there is from Napoli is unsurprisingly in centre mid. Think the first game lost versus Donetsk where they rested Mertens and Milik played instead left a mark media wise when Napoli fans usually want Sarri to rest and rotate the side far more than he usually does over a season.

Best of luck Pepe against that City attack.

Oh yes, needs to be on point as a passer as well under the City press. Napoli are never going to go the safe route of consistently long under the high City press nor do they have the starting striker for it in the diminutive Mertens.

Zidane has absolutely no worries about bringing through young players. Achraf Hakimi plays his first Champions League game tonight, he's only 18. He could've played Nacho at full-back or moved Ramos there but credit to him, he's giving the young lad a chance.
