They're suing football manager, the massive bells

Mental, apparently the game has used their name since 1992 with no complaint now all of a sudden they want a payout. They must be seeing their arse with their recent losses and the likelihood of more losses next quarter.

Quote
...The use of Man Utd's name has been present in games produced by the makers since 1992 without complaint, but the club are now taking legal action

Manchester United have launched a law suit against the makers of popular video game Football Manager over use of the club's name.

Sega Publishing and Sports Interactive (SI) collaborate to release a new version of the football management simulator each year.

United have now decided to take legal action against both companies for using their name "extensively throughout the game".

The club are also arguing that their trademark has been infringed on the game due to the use of an unofficial crest to represent them.

Rather than United's official logo, next to their name is a basic red and white striped crest.

I'm just going to assume they spelt Wijnaldum wrong.

And Aguero is quite the typo of "Fun Bobby"

Aguero definitely deserves to be in the team of the year over pour Bobby - his statistics before the injury were mind boggling - well on track for a 30+ goal season if he'd stayed fit (16 goals and 3 assists in 1400 mins is astonishing), although the injury definitely means that vardy and auba should be counted as well.  Not even KDB was close in terms of mins per goal/assist - Aguero was on 73.8 mins per goal/assist, KDB on 89 mins (the only other players with a production less than 100 are Mahrez @ 92.4, Jesus @ 95.6, vardy @ 96.7 mins, Mane @ 99.3)

Bobby was definitely having his weakest season for us, production wise (8 goals and 7 assists in 2400 mins is pretty average - less than a goal or assist every 161 mins) so I have no issue with any of those three being in there.  Fernandes is definitely a dumb one though, no way he should be in it due to lack of games

The weird thing is that what it seems like they're suing over isn't the name, but NOT using the official crest, which they would have to pay to use.

Roger Wyand QC, representing the defendants, opposed the club’s application to amend the claim.

“...Further, the claimant’s staff working in the data analytics and scouting teams have contacted SI on various occasions asking for access to the Football Manager database for scouting and research purposes.”

Net Debt up to £429.1m, an increase of £127.4m over the prior year quarter, due to decrease in cash + adverse movements in the GBP:USD exchange rate. The gross USD debt principal remains unchanged.

This is my main problem with FFP (I understand that this isn't a widely shared opinion on here). I don't understand how a club like United is continuously able to add debt after debt — and in this summer are bragging about being able to use the pandemic situation to their advantage and pick up all their transfer targets they want in spite of this 300 million addition in debt. But yet clubs with owners who have the money (generally newish owners) are unable to pump money into their club in financial terms — and can't inflate sponsorships there.

Because Man Utd earn all their money for the Glazers to siphon off. If you let these other clubs spend what they want it'll be a bloodbath. Newcastle's owner is worth 100bn. He could blow up the transfer market without noticing.

To be fair to Manchester United fans, they are pretty annoyed by the clubs actions.

If it was Liverpool I'd think it was small time and petty - especially given how long the game has existed. And especially since players can change it anyway

People changing the logo to the correct one is part of the reason they're suing. They're arguing that it is bypasssing licensing agreements and costing them money.

I think the fans’ thoughts on their team is great by the way. Reminds me when I thought players like Skrtel and Enrique could be good enough and we just needed a little bit more to become a title winner. That’s where the United fans are now, and the greatest thing is that they, like me back then, don’t realize it.

It's about a sustainable business model. United have debt yes, but it's structured in a manner that allows them to function.  An owner simply pumping money into a club isnt sustainable as the money isnt theirs - it's their owner's.

FFP recognises that clubs are businesses, and like any other business they cant be going to the magic money tree.

It's weird the standards some players have to meet to not be "crap". He was so good in 18/19 that when Virgil misplaces one pass, or fails to win one header, people jump on it like a pride of lions.

The attention that was thrown on Nicolas Pepe dribbling past Virgil earlier in the season is indicative of how much people are desperate for Virgil to have a dip in form. Unfortunately for them, Virgil is still world class and streets ahead of their best centre back.

Indeed and even ignoring the dire situation where an owner disastrously overstretched themselves, you only have to look at the wage levels and inflated sponsorships of City to see that they wouldn't be left in a sustainable position if their current owners got bored and decided to sell up.
