DIRECTIONS & PARKING:

To see a map of the ground and surrounding areas click here

By Car & Parking
Leave the M6 at Junction 26 and follow the signs for Wigan town centre (this road meets the A49) then turn left into Robin Park and continue into Scot Lane. The ground is down Scot Lane on your right.

There is a large free car park at the stadium, behind the away end. As you may expect though, there is sometimes quite a delay in getting out of this car park after the game, especially of there has been a larger than normal crowd in attendance. I wouldnt park on the retail car park unless desperate cos they will slap a fine on you.

By Train
Wigan's central railway stations (Wigan North Western & Wallgate stations) are a good 20 minute walk from the ground. So either take a taxi, or break up the journey with a few pub stops on the way! On exiting from either station head under the railway bridge and keep to the right. Follow the road (A49), making sure you stick to the right for around 10 minutes. You should pass the Seven Stars Hotel and then pass under a second railway bridge. The Robin Park complex and the JJB Stadium should then be visible. Turn down Robin Park Road and you are there.

Thoughts:
Away fans are located in the North Stand at one end of the stadium. Up to 5,400 visiting supporters can be accommodated in this area. see the pic below from the away end. The JJB is a modern stadium with decent facilties, although it is yet to be seen if they can comfortably cope with larger crowds this season on a consistant basis. The ground is located in a traffic blackspot, and its a total nightmare to get to it on a Saturday given that its next to a huge retail park, one of the north wests largest superstores [24 hr Asda], and Robin Park sports complex. This coupled with the fact that its on the outskirts of the Town Centre means its a pain to get there, especially on Saturdays. Its even worse trying to get away, especially if youve parked in one of the huge car parks right next to the ground. Usual script with these modern grounds - all nice and tidy, loads of spaces nearby, but the road network is shite! Expect a long wait.

Pub guide and extras
There is a bar called Champions which is directly opposite the main entrance to the JJB stadium. There is also a pub called the Red Robin a couple of minutes from the ground opposite the Cinema Complex (which seems to be the main pub for away fans). Both bars welcome peaceful visiting supporters'. I'd swerve the Red Robin [wacky warehouse] as it gets proper rammed pre game as its the only real ale house in touching distance.

Maybe try 'The Orwell' at Wigan Pier before going to the stadium.  It is an award winning pub with a good selection of traditional ales and regular guest beers. The food is also good. The pub is situated on the canal side and a short walk from the pub along the canal will take you to the ground. It is also only 5 minutes walk from both the train stations'.  If you follow the A49 into Wigan from the motorway, you will pass the pub on your right.

Best bet is to get into the town centre, park there [or arrive on train from Liverpool] Bevvy in the numerous ale houses as you come out the train station. "Moon Under Water" and such likes on Market Street/Wallgate - you cant miss them all. Then its a 15-20 min walk to the ground, or £3 in a taxi.

Away Fans:
North Stand - Adults £35, Concessions £30

Matchday Programme - £2.50
Cockney Latic Fanzine - £1

Loads of roads near the ground to park in for free. (Their car park at the ground looked like a nightmare to get out of, didn't even consider it.) We encountered a bit of post-match footie/shopping traffic but not bad, got away fairly easily.

The Red Robin was packed before the game as expected. Didn't eat there but loads did - had some 2 for 1 offers on. Decent enough and full of reds.

I Echo what Shankleygates said about the streets, we were late like so just threw it in a steet about 10 mins walk from the ground, easy peasy!

Oh thats 10 minutes TO the ground, getting back is a different story thanks to that fucking stupid little bridge that crosses the canal!!

The car park is no longer free - signs up saying they are charging £4 per car.

And on the retail park, the parking tickets are being heavily enforced  :wanker

Loads of reds got tickets in the home end last year. Think a few might have had problems but most were ok as far as I remember. Think they bought them on-line. The thread was deleted in case Wigan found out they were reds - or Wigan fans.

i emailed the Wigan TO last week asking about getting a Ticket for the Lpool game and they said Tickets for this game will only go on sale around 6 weeks prior to the
game being played.
When tickets go on sale they will be to people on the data base who have
had tickets before.
after reading that i thought i was fooked but having seen the crowd yesterday and reading your post i reckon i might just get one

Empty seats to start off with. It soon filled up.

It might go to general this year maybe. 5,000 allocation and an increase in ticket prices.

Remember seeing a few reds thrown out of the home end last season. Also heard of a bit of trouble around the pubs in Wigan after the game. Appart from that, I was pretty impressed with the atmosphere and it was a nice ground to visit. Bit busy outside the turnstyles just before kickoff, took me about 15 mins to get to the front of the "Queue".

lol, although it was quite a while ago. My memory could be a little fuzzy! I suppose that large an amount of away supporters should really make more noise too! Could do with a better (or any) queuing system for turnstyles next time too...
