Might we see him play in the Oxlade-Chamberlain role during the first part of the season? Seems to have a lot of the skill-set you'd want from that position (ball-carrying ability, beating a man on either side, link up play, shots from distance).

Very exciting thought indeed.

Welcome, the first order of business has to be reshaping his physique to that of his best role - a dribbler. That was when he came to prominence, and since then he's been competing in the dwarven Mr. Universe for some weird reason[...]

Sorry about that. Not trying to be negative by default, just don't like him as a player and don't think we'd be in for him if he wasn't dirt cheap. Won't change my mind instantly because he is wearing red now - but will gladly change my mind if he plays well or at least does his best to fit in.

I think it's the right signing at the right price. He'll hold his value, won't rock the boat if he doesn't play 90 minutes of every game and gives us strength in depth.

He actually created a good number of chances for his teammates at Stoke.  Any selfish side he may have will be sorted quick enough. Although at the right times, it's not a bad trait to have!

Not sure this lazy rep is fair either, but I haven't seen him enough over recent seasons to know. He seems to work pretty hard in the right areas of the pitch whenever I do see him!

This will be a very useful signing. We're going to have a strong bench for the first time in absolute ages.

Half broken Lallana, Ings, Solanke ----> Hopefully fit Lallana, Shaqiri, Origi is already a big upgrade.

If Sturridge wasn't made of glass we'd have the sort of attacking depth you need to win titles. We're getting closer and closer.

In this market, this signing is tremendous value, with very little downside. If it doesn't work, we'll end up moving him for a profit.

Agree to some extent.

His workrate in defending do need to improve but he has a pretty impressive PL appearance record. Rarely getting injured and devastating in the final 3rd of the pitch.

That itself, is already an upgrade from what we have on the bench.

a lazy player does not or cannot win 3 Swiss leagues, 2 Bundesliga, Champion League or top scorer of a German cup competition.

Klopp will turn his hunger back on and he'll be another Mo Salah in the team

I think he's a solid addition for the price but the trophy argument is completely illogical. Is John O' Shea a better player than Steven Gerrard?

Salah was the best player in the world over the last season alongside Messi and De Bruyne. Relax with the expectations.

We got him because of the other things going on with us, we buy Salah ridiculously cheap because of Roma's flirting with the edge of ffp, the season goes a treat because of the magic between Klopp and his wonderful squad, and that gets you a bonus like Shaqiri at about a third of his value because he would have intimated that this was the place for him if we were still interested. Most of the premier league would have liked to have bought him for £13m. He will put in a shift, will be open to being coached and has moments of magic in his feet already. 26 is the start of peak age. I'm in.

Klopp loves his strong fast wingers with end product. That's why they do well here. We won't see a weak winger whilst Klopp is in charge and I like that fact. Hate when they get knocked off the ball easily like wingers we've had in past.

I don't think that he is a selfish player & he was no more lazy than the players that he had around him. That being said his success or lack of will be down to his willingness to put in the hard yards and do the defensive work up top like our other lads do & I am sure that was a large part of any conversations he and the boss had,Klopp will have left him in no doubt exactly what is expected of him.

End of the day this is a no lose transfer because even if he flops we will get at least double what we paid for him.

Absolutely and the lazy argument that rolls on is ridiculous.

And if it was to be proven he is both lazy and selfish......he'll get f*ck all game time anyway.

Its simply not the Klopp way.  He demands 100% from all his players.

I understand why it’s become a thing but “look at what was on our bench in the CL final” isn’t really the way to look at it. We’ll probably never be that unlucky again.

It’s more about turning 75 points to 90. Roughly half the games Liverpool play in a given season come against opponents that are clearly a level below the club. Is Shaqiri good enough to go 90 in the odd game to rest Salah or Mane? Is he a player that could help put away Everton in the first half of last years Anfield fixture, or help break the deadlock vs West Brom at home? Can he come on and be a difference maker for 20 minutes to beat Burnley at home?

Sort of like how Wijnaldum’s signing was from Newcastle but it was actually more about what he’s proven before that at PSV that was relevant here, I don’t think it’s really about how Shaqiri performed at Stoke. His role at Bayern is a much more natural comparison.

Agree with this. I don't buy these negative comments for new players unless someone genuinely watches them regularly. Think the cheap price and playing for stoke makes it seem less exciting than it actually is for some. I'm personally delighted and think he'll play a much bigger part than many seem to think. I'll admit to having not seen a great deal of his games, but he does look strong, quick, skillful, can score goals, and seems a nice guy, so with better players around him and Klopp as manager, its all good as far as I'm concerned.

Just hoping to be helpful. All English commentators/pundits I have heard have pronounced it with q/k, and all the Shaq and Shakira jokes here imply it has stuck. Now that he has joined the club, it would be nice and respectful if Liverpool supporters do it right.
It took ages, basically until his retirement, before Finnish football fans learned this with Shefki Kuqi, another Kosovar Albanian.

Our attacking options outside the front 3 were mid-table at best. Our midfield lacked any composure to play it under pressure.

We've adressed the second spectacularly, and made a smart move to address the first, and hopefully a fit Lallana and Shaqiri to address the first. Big improvements which will be vital. If we are to win the league, we need to gain at least 10 points on last season. We're improving the starting 11 and the bench, which is key.
