Peter Kay's Car Share
« on: March 28, 2015, 08:05:50 pm »
I went to the premier in Blackpool last night.

It is a new sit com coming out 29th April on BBC1.

They played all 6 episodes on the big screen with Peter Kay saying a few
words after episode 4

It was the funniest sitcom I have seen for a long, long time.

Really a must watch

Watched the first 3 episodes last night,

It's decent and goes quite quickly considering it's 30 minutes of people talking in a car.

One thing is I think the formula might get a bit tired and repetitive due to the fact there's only really 2 characters with minimal interaction with others or a change of scenery,

Your right it could struggle in series 2 or 3 but just now it is very good

Watched all 6 episodes last night after only intending to dip my toe in with episode one. Thought it was really good. Peter Kay was just being Peter Kay, as you'd expect, but for me the real star was Sian Gibson (Kayleigh). What a find she is.

Many laugh out loud moments, was in stitches over the drink bottle in the first ep. Some genuinely touching moments too. It's not as polished as Phoenix Nights for example, but that's part of its charm. Whether it has more mileage in it depends on where the writers want to take it, I hope it has.

Stumbled on this by accident on Iplayer.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Agree it's not as polishes as Phoenix nights, but some of the laugh out loud moments were brilliant.

Loved the fishmonger episode. Though the water bottle will take some beating.

Yeah she's in most Kay's shows but doesn't appear to get any other work which is odd because she's decent in everything I've seen her in,

She was in That Peter Kay Thing in a couple of episodes, played Holy Mary's daughter in Phoenix Nights and she was in the Jesus Christ Superstar thing he did as well

Watched all of this over the last few days, Its actually surprisingly good. The episodes just flew by because the chemistry between the 2 main characters is so good and natural. Lots of funny moments and the music is fantastic.

All 6 were premiered on iplayer for a few days up til the day of the first TV broadcast. They're all up on youtube now, although they're in a 'window' to get round the copyright restrictions or whatever.

Ep 3 is prob my favourite, the drunk kayleigh/fishmonger episode. Well worth seeing.

13 posts? Shame on RAWK. Absolutely fantastic show. I know Peter Kay is/was uncool but this is brilliantly written.

Kayleigh is an amazing character who has me in stitches and plays wonderfully off Peter Kay's John.  "Jeff Capes was assassinated?!..." "Dinosaurs?... It's a conspiracy... They aren't in the nativity or on Noah's Ark John... The stories don't match..."

So many hysterical moments. Look out for the roadside signs in each show: "buy one meal for the price of two and get the second absolutely free..."  "Missing husband, last seen inside a whore..."  And the adverts: "depressed?... You need a new shed from..."

Agree, I think everyone went off him because of the shite tours that were essentially the same material every time but this is gold. I've really enjoyed it.

Yes I had gone off him but this program has been a great hit with me and the other half.

I think the fact that it came from someone else who then pitched it to Peter Kay has helped freshen up Kay's formula, the co-creator had the idea first, pitched it to Kay and then they worked it up fully together. Think often having someone else to bounce ideas off helps - didn't Spikey and Fitzmaurice co-write Phoenix Nights?

Great post Alan, I had the same conversation with a lad in work yesterday who gave 1 episode 10 minutes, I can't convince him what he's missing.
His little side-ways glances of astonishment at her are a treat.

I thought the first episode was crap but stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Every episode since has had some proper laugh out loud moments. Kayleigh is brilliant.

Any news of a second series?

I don't watch much, but I watched this on the strength of this thread. Had to watch it late at night, as always, but woke up the family several times trying not to laugh too loud. Very good stuff from Kay, and the double-act is excellent. There's a clear and genuine rapport between them. I don't know if there's a second series in the works, but if they make one, it'll have a good standard to live up to.

Sian Gibson is boss.

I feel like I've seen all the big jokes before, the spilt piss, the dogging/dogwalking mixup, the nobhead co-worker, the being overheard on the phone stuff, but it's done with such charm and verve it's hard not to love it.

spoilered for anyone still to watch last night's ep

Brilliant series I never thought would work, just 2 characters chatting in a car, takes a lot of talent to write.
Been in tears a few times watching but the episode with the Scotchman on the phone was one of the best 30 min viewing ive seen in years.

Not in the same format, I'd agree. But they are two great characters (three including the Shearsmith fishmonger) and there's potential there to expand it. Preferably in a Partridge out of the TV studio into a Travel Tavern way rather than a Fletch out of 'Porridge' into a 'Going Straight' way. Say, Peter Kay's House Share as the new 'Odd Couple'. Like Gimme Gimme Gimme but funny.

Actually, scrap that. Shit idea. I dunno, seems a waste just to leave it there though.
