bugger, i was only a toddler when he was at his peak, but ill never forget how much my dad and older brother thought the world of him... he's joining St john now.. in fact one of the things i recall as a kid was my older brother asking me he had scored the longest goal in Liverpool history,??  "Ian St john, from Hunts Cross"  if youre not a scouser it wont make sense..

Sad, sad news, literally went past his name this morning when I saw a table of our top league goalscorers. Wondered how he was in 2nd place to Rushie when I realised his 2nd division goals didn't count.

Another great goes, what a horrible year.

RIP

Even centuries from now his name will be associated with scoring goals. Lots of them. He really played an instrumental role in transforming Liverpool from second-tier also-rans into a global powerhouse. If not for the 1962 promotion and the 1964 league title who knows what might have happened? One of the true greats have passed away.
