Miralem Pjanic has joined Beşiktaş on loan from Barcelona. What a weird, dodgy transfer that move from Juve was.

He looks thrilled to be there!

Shame he's career has gone down the toilet since leaving Juve, he's only 31, but on the other hand he's played at a high level since 2008

They flogged him in exchange for Arthur who was as much of a nothing player as Andre Gomes was for them. Pjanic another 30 year old signing though. Their recruitment strategy is just diabolical, even going back to Pep. For over a decade they flourished off the back of having one of the best ever youth teams to come through.

Late UK transfer news.

Anglican bishop of Ebbsfleet resigns to join Roman Catholic church. No transfer fee disclosed and he's passed his medical. Just waiting for him to be presented in his new kit.

Other teams were put off by the fact he can only move diagonally.

£59.5 isn't all that significant when you're discussing numbers in the millions.

The Express are a shite source, without wanting to piss on your chips. He'd be an excellent signing for Arsenal, not entirely sure why he'd go there though in all honesty, when if he sees out the rest of this season he probably has Juventus, Bayern Munich and Dortmund all willing to pay what it takes.

I'm way more skeptical on him than this - he's not putting up the underlying numbers that would indicate he's a CL level player at least at the  moment
I haven't watched him much and obviously he's 22 so can still develop but I'm not sure I can see what he does at an elite level? or what he might do at an elite level.

He's one of the few I let the numbers guide me less on. His production is patently elite, but when you actually take away penalties his production is decent, not brilliant. I watch all of Fiorentina's games and their attack last season was dire, they scored 47 last season, less than Torino who barely avoided the drop, several placed below Fiorentina. He has an ability to take chances when he really only gets a couple per game, and he's still running a non-penalty XG+XA of 0.46 per 90 despite an improved Fiorentina once again being goal-shy and focused on solidity and shape.

He's aggressive, carries the ball well, fantastic in the air and still manages 2.63 shots per 90 without penalty kicks. I think there's enough there, at his age, in the team and system he's in to suggest he could step up considerably in more copacetic surroundings. I think he'd be excellent with a pacier forward round him, which he now has at Fiorentina in Gonzalez, who when fit has been a nice foil that's assisted in Vlahovic bagging 8 in his first 12 league games this season (50% of his team's goals). I think he'd suit Dortmund in tandem with Malen when Haaland inevitably leaves.

Interesting thanks.

I do think you need to take a lot on faith with him - as in... his situation / team set up isn't great, he's pre peak, he'll prosper elsewhere.
To me he has the whiff of a striker who ran hot for a season which has put him into a category in the market he probably shouldn't be in.
The counter point is obviously that if you're scoring goals in the top 5 leagues at 20/21 you're by definition a great prospect as its rare.

However this season he's at 0.37 npxg+xa - that's not good. (for context Gonzalez is playing in the same set up is at 0.6)
I'm doing this off numbers and some small looks at him and I admit numbers aren't everything and he remains an interesting prospect but I think you'd want to see more if you were recruiting for a Dortmund or Atletico or similar
