Watching on the news. In another house after ours had burnt to the ground.

at work, first I knew was when I got in my car after work, it was moments before the 2nd tower fell. Radio was tuned to 5 live anyway, it  took 2 or 3 minutes to work out wtf they were talking about

At Manchester Airport waiting to see a Contractor.  Heard it break on Five Live just before the 2nd plane hit.  Phoned my mate immediately as we had only been there the year before.  The initial reports were that a small plane had hit the first tower.

Had the meeting with my customer and during it his phone kept on ringing as his Mrs worked for an American Bank here in the UK and kept on updating us.

Will never forget that day or where I was.

In work - the demo suite they had there had a projection screen and they left the live coverage running on that. Some knobs virtually had popcorn.

Then went to Boavista in the evening. Can hardly remember the game.

This is the 'Kennedy' moment of our generation.

I was on a Sales Floor in Manchester with a couple of hundred people on the phones.

Slowly a hush descended across the room as people began to register what was happening.

It was eerie listening to the silence of what was always a bustling loud atmosphere.  I'll never forget it

It was definately one of those, 'you'll never forget where you were' moments.

Driving on the M1 motorway for me. Left work early in London & we were on our way up to Anfield for the Boavista match. Got a text telling us to turn on the news on the radio. Listening to the reporter as the second tower collapsed was surreal. Made the blood run cold to be honest.

Very subdued atmosphere at the match & fairly low attendance if I remember right.

Was on a bus on the way home from school when I heard about it. Was wondering what was going on because even in a small town in south Wales the police were swarming about with a very visible presence. Got home and my dad had it on tv and just sat there glued to the screen for hours, saw both the towers collapse, it was very surreal.

I was walking home from school and I walked into the shop on my way home, in the shop there were like 4 or 5 people crowded round a litttle tele watching shit happening.

I went home and sat watching with the rest of my family.

i was working but for some reason, can't remember why, i didnt find out about any of it till i got home at about 4pm, and my girlfriend at the time phoned me and said have you seen the news etc, just gobsmacked at what i was watching, like watching a film at first....went out to play 5 a side later on in the evening, remember my mate mentioning a bloke called bin Laden, the name never registered at all, strange to think how notorious the name would turn out to be....visited ground zero in 2008, the sense of death is overwhelming, just a really strange feeling i got standing there, had a walk down an adjacent street and looked back as to where the towers would of stood, the sense of size really hit me, can't imagine what it would of been like on the day itself...

In Sydney - flicking through the channels as it was late evening. Saw a couple of the news channels were showing the first tower with smoke and speculating what had happened so we stopped and watched it. Saw the 2nd plane hit as it happened. Completely surreal experience.

The next morning I went to an internet cafe to check emails as I had a mate who was working in New York for a year. Had an email from him describing the scene from his office window (he was working about 20 blocks further north) and was worried about his mates, some of whom worked near the World Trade Center. Thankfully they were all fine but I remember his email vividly to this day.

Working in the city of London. Trying to follow it on the web as it unfolded - all the news sites were overloaded. It was terrifying as there was a palpable feeling that London was next. No one knew what was going on. The tube was scary...

It felt different. I have been working in London when the IRA let bombs off. This was much much scarier.

Was at school. Stayed late after school to finish of my DT assignment. My mum came to pick me up, told me and said to me

'The world is going to change forever now'

Then sat in front of the tv for the rest of the night. Was really too young to understand what she meant by those words but I understand now.

The world did change that day. 10 years on you cant really put it into words. It truly was a global event. Everyone in the developed world saw it happen live and in their living room

I was in Orkney, but that day I was due to fly back to the Middle East. I had gone back to Orkney to wrap up the sale of a house that I had bought when I was working up there. I  got up in the morning, and went for a very long walk on one of the beaches, as I knew this would be the last time I saw Orkney.

I drove to Kirkwall airport in the afternoon, without listening to the radio, and bowled up to the BA desk...my flight was Kirkwall- Aberdeen- Heathrow, and then on to Bahrain the following day. The guy on the desk knew me (everyone knew everyone in Orkney), and told me that Aberdeen would not be a problem, but he doubted that I would get to Heathrow that night. When I asked him why, he looked at me like I was retarded, and just gestured at an adjoining office where there was a tv. I can still remember the horror I felt when I saw those planes hitting the towers.

I was on the bus back to school following a PE lesson. Teacher came on the bus and told us, to be honest I never knew much about the WTC before then so the magnitude didn't really hit me until I got hone & watched the news. Even now, watching those towers collapse makes my blood run cold. It's horrible to think how many lives were lost as them buildings came crashing down.

Was working in a bar in a tourist town. The bar was full of American tourists having lunch at the time and my boss rang me to tell me to turn on the TV. One woman sitting at the counter let out a scream that at the time sounded like nothing I'd heard before or since. It turned out her son worked in one of the towers. It was awful watching her as she tried to find out where he was. I never found out if he was ok as her friends took her back to the hotel hours later. I can still see her face the moment she first saw it. I don't remember much about the towers falling, saw it all later on TV when I got home, but that woman's look of pain and fear will never leave me.

In work in the Bootle tax office.  We didn't have external internet, televisions or radio so everything was relayed to us by phone and we sent runners to the pub which had it on their telly.  The thing I remember most was how, after about an hour, the phones mostly stopped ringing except for news updates.

In a computer lab at school doing a geography research project. I remember Yahoo! was the homepage for the computers and there was a small story about it, which made it sound like a small private plane had hit them. In the next class, teachers were taking any TVs out of the A/V areas and bringing them into their classrooms for us to watch. I think all we did that entire week was watch the news and talk about it.
